Default Denon AVR1610 or Pioneer VSX919AH?

Have done lots of research and have weeded my choices for AV receiver down to either the Pioneer VSX919AH or the Denon AVR1610. Only need 5.1 surround. Only need HDMI pass through, as I have no analog sources going in. This is for a small HT with 46" LCD, and Tannoy HTS100 speaker system. Not much online about either of these receivers. Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

The Denon would be a better choice for many reasons, 1 being quality.

The 1610 does more than pass throuigh, it decoded HD audio via HDMI and is priced very well.

link for the 1610 @ crutchfield

I can't find much info on the Pioneer you mentioned other than a little on Amazon.com.

The Denon looks like a great buy

When I said "pass through" I meant HDMI switching, not pass through of signal while the receiver is off. Just wanted to clarify.

I don't know of any of the receivers that allow pass through with the receiver off.

I do not need that feature, but there are receivers that offer that. I believe a few of the Denons will do this. This is for people who want to watch TV without turning on the whole surround sound system. The source can pass the signal through the turned off receiver directly to the TV. Saves having to use two different outputs from one source, where one would go directly to the TV and the other to the AV receiver, when you want to watch TV or DVD without turning on the surround sound.

The Pioneer isn't in the same class of receivers as the Denon, to get that you would need to step up to their Elite line of receivers. The Denon is clearly the superior choice as would be a Yamaha, HK, Onkyo, and several others.

I am not sure what you mean if not what I previously mentioned.

I have a Denon 4806 and it does not allow the signal to pass to the display when turned off.

Did anyone in this thread even look at the Pioneer

OP, both receivers are very good, but it seems the Pioneer is going to cost less. I would go with it.

The amount of baseless Pioneer bashing in this thread is wildly disturbing.

I don't see where anyone was bashing Pioneer just saying that the Elite models are what is needed to compare with the Denon.

New members might as well ask what everyone else owns when getting suggestions because that's how people here tend to answer.

Using Google before posting advice only benefits the person asking. Not doing so, well, you might as well not even answer. Or at least preface your answer by saying it's guess work.

Excuse me? You are assuming a lot here. You are saying that you would buy the Pioneer over the Denon when cost was no issue? Did you even read the thread to see the question behind the question ("HDMI pass-through with the unit off") before you decided to start slamming the advice given here?

I happened to look at both and compared, side by side. The specs. on the Denon are better than the Pioneer from what I saw.

You can climb down off of your high horse now

If cost was no issue, these two receivers wouldn't be being compared. They're both skewed for bang for the buck budget.

But when I googled the two I got this:

Pioneer
http://www.hd.ca/pioneerreceivers/vsx919ahk.php

Denon
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_033AV16...ures_and_specs

It's not even a question That's why I question some the research that went on.
