Why is Bose so good?

You can get a decent sounding speaker, that are well constructed for a fraction of the price.

I keep 3 sets of book shelf speakers in my computer room - B&W 602's - JBL 4406 Studio Monitors - and a set of Bose 301's. These are all digitally fed to an older Onkyo NR801 receiver. At lower levels, the B&W's are sweet and rich. Mid-levels, all three perform but I slightly prefer the JBL's. At higher levels, the 301's flatten out, the JBL's perform, but the B&W's stand out. I would like to point out that the JBL's are the oldest of the 3, have titanium tweeters. The B&W's, kevlar mids and titanium tweets. Bose,,who knows what the construction is. Please keep in mind that all 3 are, or were comparativly priced when new. Aww, shit,,who am I kidding. The Bose suck. The only reason they are not out in the garage is so I can keep them hooked up to show other people what crappy overpriced pieces of shit they are. The only reason BOSE is still around is because they have an expert marketing department. That, and a gullible clientele that think mp3's sound good.

about Zenith TV's, the junk goes in before the name goes on
Bose has a great marketing system not sound system.

I think Loves2Watch does an exceptional job describing the deficiencies of Bose speaker systems. I will add that Bose spends a lot of money on the rooms they set up for customers to audition their products as well. I no longer have a 5.1 set up as I am more of a two channel guy, but when I did, it was not Bose.
That said, I would put two channel set up,with my 24 year old Polk SDA's against any Bose system.

Those B&W are Kevlar. And considered High end. Bulletproof!
