Default panasonic sc-pt956 cannot play DTS HD lossless

Hey guys,

this is my first time on the boards and precisely because I have an issue with my surround sound that is driving me nuts. So I have my blu-ray hooked up and for the most part, the audio plays wonderfully. However, whenever the main track is the DTS Multi, my player gives me no sound whatsoever. When I switch the audio on the dvd over to any of the Dolby's though, I get great sound. The problem comes when there is not an alternate English track on Dolby (ie one that isn't the director commentary). I have found that this happens on all of my Fox dvds, specifically 28 Days Later is essentially unplayable for me because I can't hear it!

I know that my surround has the dts capability though (theoretically) because the icon is on the sc-pt956 itself, the thing is that there isn't a dts button on the remote or anything.

Does anyone have an thoughts/advice/solutions? This is driving me up a wall. Thanks guys!

What Blu-ray player are you using and what connection? Your SC-PT956 has a DTS decoder and although it can't decode DTS-HD MA, it can't be played using optical or coaxial digital connection in any event, it can decode the basic DTS. I don't know if that specific decoder can decode the core 1.5Mbps stream and that might be the issue although it still should decode a lesser variety of DTS. I think the player settings are likely the source of the issue.

hey chris,

thanks for responding. I'm running on a philips bdp7200. How could I reset the player to decode the basic dts? the thing that drives me nuts is I get full on sound when the menu is up but still a whole lot of nothing when I play the flick. thanks again man, any suggestions you have are much welcome and appreciated.

Should be under audio options in your Blu-Ray player settings.
