Below are my input diagrams ...
I have tried everything I could think of thus far ... I cannot get sound from the center channel FROM the PS3 blu ray movies or games. I CAN get sound from the center channel with the HT DVD and DVR/Cable box. I have connected the digi opti from the PS3 into the HT as per Samsung instructions - NO sound at all from HT system. I connected the PS3 digi opti INTO the LCD TV - sound from surround speakers - NO sound from center channel. I tried 2 different digi opti cables - same result. I changed audio output setting within the PS3 - same result. I also went OUT of the TV and INTO the HT digi opti input. DVR is connected to TV via HDMI 1 PS3 is connected to TV via HDMI 2 HT is connected to TV via HDMI 3 Since HDMI carries audio AND video signals .... Why wont the PS3 audio come thru the center channel? (with or without digi opti cable) (I had a cheap old KOSS HT system with 2 coax dig out and 1 digi opti - PS3 worked GREAT with it.) Where am I missing something? Is there an optimal setup for this NEW equipment that is eluding me? Sony PS3 has only 1 HDMI out and 1 digi opti out. If you run your PS3 via optical to your KOSS and try a DTS bluray movie or a put a standard DVD in the PS3 that should work, if I am correct. Don't forget to set the PS3 back to optical for audio output and select bitstream on the optical output. The PS3 only output to either the HDMI or optical not both at the same time. PS3 games that are Dolby Digital are also 640Kbps (at least the onse I have tried). Other receivers/Preamps have this 640Kbps DD bug as well. I have found the source and solved my problem.
The PS3 default settings had the DD5.1 and DTS disabled in the audio output menu. I enabled both and have success with the blu ray films and games! After beating my head against the wall , I KNEW it had to be something within that PS3 console.

I have hdtv with ps3 video hooked up with HDMI and optical audio to an older 5.1 system. I can get full surround with center channel from cable box, but not ps3. It worked fine before, but when I was watching a Blu-Ray for the first time, I screwed around with ps3 settings to get surround sound and now the center channel makes no sound. I cant remember what the were before. I have tried resetting to default and simply resetting the ps3. PLEASE HELP!!!

Go to settings - audio settings on the PS3 - now choose HDMI (if you have that connected) then select automatic. Your PS3 and television will "converse" over the HDMI cable. You will then see, after selecting automatic, the formats your PS3 will send to the TV.
Remember to do this every time you move your PS3 system to another display or stereo. Different equipment acccepts different formats and bitrates from your PS3, the PS3 will send out the "best quality" after you have completed the steps above. Happy New year! ![]() Cheers, MC |
