I recently bought a surround sound system. I have my dvd receiver hooked up fine, but my cable runs through my vcr and I have tried everything and cannot figure out how to hook it up. I have one of the new pure digital tvs and it has so many jacks on it I dont know what to do. If anyone can help please do I dont know much about this stuff and i am really confused.

This question was asked up in Flat Panel tvs. If you don't record shows anymore with your VCR, remove it from the wall cable and just run the wall cable into your cable box or whatever you are using to supply the tv video. Then attach your vcr directly to your tv with component/svideo/yellow composite (best to worst), then the vcr's sound cable, optical/coax/red&white rca (best to worst), directly into your receiver.
If you still use the vcr for recording, you'll have to keep it the way it is. |

Heck, even if you are using the VCR to record, you should get it out of your primary signal path. Run the cable box directly to your receiver and/or TV. Run the output of your VCR to your receiver and/or TV as well. If you want to record on the VCR, then run a second set of audio/video cables from the cable box to the VCR.
You don't mention what kind of equipment you have, making it hard to give anything more than pretty generic advice. |
