Default questions on polk and yamaha sound bar/projectors

I had an installer in for a walk through and he suggested i should get a sound bar or projector speakers. I then contacted an audio/video sales rep, he said it won't work for my setup. He said i can only connect the speaker to a HD DVD and tv, i can't connect my other dvd recorder, cd recorder, turntable, vcr and reciever 'cause there's no hdmi input. He also said only 2 equipments with hdi inputs can be connected to the speaker and I cannot connect the speaker to my reciever. Basically, my reciever is useless.

Here's my setup - Yamaha rx-v3300
JVC DR-MH30 DVD Recorder
Toshiba DK-R10 DVD Recorder with upconversion
JVC CD Recorder
Satellite HD Recorder
Turntable
I also have cable for satellite that gets channels from all over the world. Since I have found knowledgable people here, i am hoping to find solutions here, I don't want to buy another receiver 'cause it doesn't have HDMI inputs.

I would use a set of surround sound speakers like the Paradigm or Definitive Technology cinema series. They will give you much better performance/sound than any sound bar.

Thanks for your reply. I looked up the speakers you suggested and it lookes like the price range is in the thousands. I'm not looking to break the bank, I'd like to keep my budget at 1,000 max. The closest well known dealers are Ken Cranes.

Also, can anyone give me names of reputable home theater installers? i live in Costa Mesa, Ca.

Thanks.
