Default Surround Sound Question - L32WD22

I purchased this new TV recently at a Walmart sale but when I tried to hook up my RCA surround sound, I didn't see an optical/digital sound port for the surround sound. I assumed this was a standard in new TVs, as old stuff I have like a PS2 even has it. I did notice it has a coaxel or whatever it's called thing for sound, but my sound reciever is awkward and doesn't have coaxel selectable for TV - yet it does for DVD and such. Anyone know what's up with this? Is my sound system just outdated?

Wait, I didn't get your question:

1) Does the TV have optical or digital coaxial audio outputs?

2)Does the RCA surround sound have optical or digital coaxial inputs at all?

If your receiver has multiple coaxial inputs for digital audio, connect the coaxial digital audio output of the TV to one of them and then select that particular input on the receiver when you want to watch TV with surround sound. The labels on the receiver's digital inputs are just suggestions.

The TV has a single coaxial output and the surround sound system has one as well, input I'd assume.

There's a button on the receiver to choose which you want. Analogue, optical, and coaxial. But for the TV option, coaxial is excluded. I really can't understand why it would be since the option exists for DVD, which I already use optical for. Do I just need a newer one, which should have the option of using coaxial for my TV?
