Firstly if you only have 2 RCA jacks then it isn't really surround sound. Get a receiver that has optical or coaxial digital inputs which do carry surround sound information. What you are currently doing is making pseudo surround sound and hence the drop in volume. Try a reciever like this and your ears will thank you for it. http://www.shoponkyo.com/detail.cfm?...il=1&ext_war=1

you should really read up on some elementary writings about what surround sound is and how it's achieved. surround sound is transmitted to your receiver via a digital stream or via 3/5/'7 discrete analog inputs.

in short, you need a modern receiver.

Loves2Watch sells everyone Onkyo receivers. They're good. You shouldn't narrow your search to Onkyo - consider Yamaha, Harmon Kardon, and Sony in the sub $600 range.

what do you have for tv? sometimes the cab/sat box has a volume control if go to audio options you might be able to find a way to calibrate it. hopefully that helps till you can get a new receiver.

I think we would all agree that a true surround system would be ideal. Considering that you just dumped a load of money on a new TV, I understand you may want to wait a while for a receiver and speakers.

That being the case, there is nothing wrong with 2 channel for the time being.

You said you hooked up the TV to the receiver. Check the audio settings on the TV menu to see if the audio output is on variable or fixed. If it is on variable, turn the volume up on the TV itself, as well as the receiver. Also, try fixed to see if the level is acceptable.

thank you guys for helping me out , however the only options that i do have as far as sound goes is, i could only let sound play from either the tv or the receiver, they cannot work together in order for sound to play , is there any other options that you guys would suggest? thank you so much

make sure you're not using the phono input when hooking your TV's outputs to the receiver. Other than that, I'm not sure what the problem is.
