Default Replace Center Speaker

I have an Onkyo HT-SR800. The center speaker that came with the unit is downright obtrusive. I have my LCD mounted over my fireplace, leaving NO room to camouflage the speaker. I am considering purchasing a more attractive speaker to replace the center channel and I have a few questions.

1) Is their any downside to replacing a single speaker which will no longer match the rest of the speaker set?
2) Is their any conceivable way to get the center channel (and only the center channel) to emit from my TV? (Sony KDL-46v2500)
3) If that is possible, how much sound quality would I lose by routing it through the TV?
4) Any center speaker suggestions that aren't so unsightly?

Thanks in advance!

sound should never bow to looks!

I've never tried this, but in theory, it might actually work wiring your center output on the receiver to the Sony stereo inputs, with the help of some adapters and some splitters. Do-able. Maybe.

What are you setting the speaker on? A mantle? How tall can it be? And what do you consider "ugly"?

However, I wouldn't do it. TV speakers frequency response cannot be good.

Yes, te speaker is on the mantle. The space between the mantle and the bottom of the TV is approx 10 inches (so that's about how tall it can be). I'd just like something that isn't a big black box. Maybe a little thinner than the bulky speaker that came with the HTIB.

If you buy anything other than an Onkyo speaker, be very careful. Sound and timbre matching are of paramount importance and if you get some other brand, your sound may become so bad that you will find it intolerable.
