First, two things...I am a total NOOB when it comes to Surround Sound configurations and how it's hooked up...I don't even own a surround sound system (this is for a relative)
Second...yeah, I know, I know....Bose blows...but it's my sister's setup and yeah, chicks dig the bose products. OK, here is my question. The Amp is a 5-1 surround sound system. According to my sister, the bass connection is an RCA style plug...The satelite speakers are the typical clamp wire connections. The Bose system woofer obviously will not fit in the subwoofer connection on the amp......and I've heard many bad things about hooking the cube speakers directly into the other connections on the amp... Is there an easy way (other than dumping the Bose and going with another brand) to get this bose system to work with a surround sound amp? Thanks Ed |

knowing the speaker system would help but here goes, For the most part you can use the cube speakers with any reciever, it won't harm the speakers (even tho they are garbage). the subwoofer you can use with any other reciever just hook up the supplied sub cable(that is attached to the speaker cables as well). that is it.. its pretty simple. I would however just dump it and go for something better like a sub/sat system from paradigm, it sounds better and is alot cheaper that the bose overpriced crap.

biggest potential problem I see here is the crossing over the cubes since their freq handling range is likely to be very limited on the low end. I haven't looked at Bose bass module in a long time, but here's what I would do.
Hook the cubes up directly to the amplifier, if in fact the have "bare wire" +/- at the end that hooks up to a receiver. Hook the sub/bass module to the receiver's SUB OUT jack using any RCA plug. You have to access the receiver's crossover setting to ensure the cubes don't get anything below 120Hz, or even higher, like 140-160, if the receiver will do it. I was given an acoustimass 10 setup sans bass module and I fully intend to utilize them for my spare bedroom/Xbox360 room. I'll be using a 12" sub with them. Should be interesting. |
