Got most of this covered except for the listening mode
I have a Onkyo 503 amp. Is there a good mode to listen in? I'm missing something. Is there a one mode fits all?

I have an Onkyo 573 and like Neo 6 Movie, all the time. Sounds good.

I wonder if Direct puts out whatever it gets..

In the user manual which comes with the Onkyo receivers it says Direct mode outputs the sound as it is with minimal processing. The bass and treble functions are bypassed. Neo 6 creates 6.1 surround from stereo sources. If you go here http://www.us.onkyo.com/download/own...m?cat=Receiver
