Default Best speaker brand

I am just curious as to see what kind of people are on this site..What is your favorite brand and model speaker if you were to go out and buy speakers right now. And why would you buy them. And also, a brand and model if money was not an option....

I will start it off . On my budget right now, Jbl studio L's I am actually ordering soon . they play loud like KLipsch, but have very smooth highs If money was not an option, Martin Logan Summit. why, cause they sound like someone is standing in front of my when there is music on them. And they kick a$$ with movies with their Depth sub.

Default Budget = Sony, Now = Paradigm

I upgraded from Sony speakers to Paradigm, except for the subwoofer (kept the Sony subwoofer). Don't plan to upgrade any further at this point - am very happy with the Paradigms.

The Sony speakers were fine for movies but not for music.

You asked a very subjective question. To some, horn loaded speakers sound best, others like planar/electrostatic, still others like sealed cabinets designs. Go listen to as many different designs and decide for your self. The best systems I've heard (not saying it's the best for all) is a tie...Wilson Audio Watt Puppy 7's powered by Audio Research tube gear, and Magnepan 20.1's powered by the same Audio Research gear...while listening to vinyl on a Basis turntable.

I really like speakers from BG. Since we do alot of in-wall/in-ceiling the BG sound amazing. We also sell SpeakerCraft, JBL, Klipsch, and a few others. BG at least for me are best overall.

Default Mirage Omnistat series

I have just recently upgraded to the new Mirage Omnistat series which is reveiwed in this month's HomeTheater magazine, and got a very high rating and their soundfeild is absolutely amazing the separation is super, without definitively pinpointing the sound origin great for both Audio and Movie use. Their principle design is based on reflective sound projection. They are sold thru Magnolia stores and can be heard there for comparison

Concerning audio/video home equipment, best isn't easy to pin down. I think Sony makes the best CRT displays and TiVo makes the best PVR's and even those opinions aren't universal. Best speaker brands to me are the ones that provide the best value and I think JBL does that. Still you can't just buy JBL at a given price point and assume it will even be competitive for a given installation. Decide on a budget and personal preference. Read about speakers, listen when you can and hope for the best is about all you can do. I will leave best regardless of price to someone else.

Maybe if you 'go' somewhere else, they are mounted in the floor.

I remember that guy claiming they suck because the driver basket is not cast aluminum?
I almost fell over when I read that. I know even 'some' high end' speakers have cast baskets, but at least half do not.
And lots of mediocre car speakers at Wal Mart and Pep Boys do too!

Vander's are nice..I've heard 'em.

1978 Mr. Vandersteen went out to buy speakers. When they all sounded bad to him he disigned his own and has been selling them ever since.
