Once again, thankyou, its rare for people to go out of their way for other people, especially on a forum where people prefer to just get in heated arguments, but I'm guilty there as well.
Funny you say your in the car stereo industry yet you want something for $200 to sound decent. If anything you should know, you get what you pay for in speakers and amps regardless for home or auto.

You stated it perfect when you compared the amps, saying that five of one can't hold a candle to the one of the better amps.

If you are a really interested in that price range let me know and we have the JBL open box.

My thought too.. I can't remember how many cars I had where I replaced the stock speakers soon after purchase for a 'cheap improvement'. Works everytime.

Obviously you get what you pay for, When I comes to my car I want the best, killer bass and clean highs. But for my home sterio, which I only use when watching movies, which is not very often, I don't care as much. I don't expect a set for 200 bucks to sound great, just as long as it doesn't pop or crackle during action flicks, that's all I care about.

I listen to my car stereo all day everyday, home stereo not so much, which is why I'm just looking for something cheap. Also, I have a nice car so I wanted a nice stereo so I was willing to spend over a grand. On the other hand I'm still in college and I live in a shitty college town apartment, how nice of a surround system do i need??

Default Depauvillekid...

Hey Bro...

Spend just a LITTLE bit more than $200 and you could have this...

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1099395730499

NICE yamaha surround sound HTIB. For the money it's MORE than decent. The speakers alone are pretty nice quality and the receiver is pretty gnarly. My only gripe with it is the passive sub.. But the good thing about the receiver is you can upgrade to a powered sub using the pre-out. Upgradeability is certainly there. Go to a store and have some of the guys give you a demo. For the money it's definitely a solid buy. Multiple digital audio inputs...component video switching...sub pre-out... 770 watt... user friendly.... good system. Check it out.

Hope that helps.

Default Decent under $200

A cheap receiver can cause the popping your talking about. The majority of receivers allow you to set your channels independently if not you got a junk receiver.A minor setting in your receivers setting might help with what your talking about. You'll spend $1000 on a flopbox 360,but won't invest the time into researching a surround system to your liking. And stay away from Blows,SONY,JVC or another quick fix in-a-box.Look at most of our signatures and you get the idea of what we working with.

looks to me like you have spent enough time on posting to have gone out to a couple of stores and actually heard the quality you can expect at a price you can afford.

You could set up one system, have 50 forum members over to listen to it, and you would probably get 50 different opinions, assuming the brand of the product was hidden.

I bought a complete Onkyo system when Pro Logic first came out. I got a nice sub at a yard sale for nothing. It still sounds great, everything works and it's plenty for my small living room. It was purchased to go with a 37" tube Mitsubishi with a WOODEN cabinet, with folding doors to protect the tube. (You guys do remember wood? we are talking real Ash) That TV was $3500 in 1989, and was the largest tube on the market at the time. It looks like the entire system will outlive me. I finally adjusted the video settings this morning. Not bad for a 20 year old TV.

My point is get out there and experience the products first hand. If you like it, game over..............

Good luck

Again, where is the data to support this unfounded claim?

Again, pure opinion and not based in fact.

if you will find anything under $200 it will give good surround sound at low sound levels as soon as u go higher sound levels you will start hearing distortion and all other stuff that you will not find in high to mid range systems.
Not good advice at all as you never know what you are getting. Stick with reputable retailers or on line stores

Hogwash! Onkyo, for example makes receivers speakers, amps, tuners and DVD players and they always have. In fact, some of their speakers are rated the most unique and best offered. The HTIB's that Onkyo makes are exceptional and dollar for dollar you just can't find a better sounding/performing/value system and they sound more like audiophile grade equipment them most all other brands.

True, my old Onkyo HTiB system sounded, to me, better than the Bose Lifestyle system it replaced....the the receiver gave me more options than the Bose for connections.

I would like to point out to boffin_adi, geneinnc and you Loves that this thread was over 2 years old and some of the previous advise may now be obsolete.
