Default Onkyo 503 What mode do you....

have the amp set on for general movie/TL Listening? All stereo or Cinema? I have tried to hear the surround sound on the NASCAR rase but don't get it. I am a newbie and wish I had found this before I bought but I seem to have stumbled on the right equipment.

Thanks in advance

It depends on how your cable/dish receiver is connected to the Onkyo. My dish receiver is connected via digital optical, and it feeds my Onkyo 701 the proper stereo or surround signal. Tell us what your setup is so we can get a better idea of the possible settings.

Edit: With my setup, I watch shows in whatever is broadcast. Stereo comes through as stereo, and surround as surround.

if you have a digital box from comcast then you should connect it via an optical cable directly into the reciever. same for the dvd player. if the dvd player doesnt have optic connection then see if it has a orange colored input. that is pretty much the same as optic. i watched nascar in surround sound and you can hear the differance right away. so you should know when you got it set up right.
