Surround sound systems with USB port?

Yesterday, I went to BestBuy to check on surround sound systems and noticed some of them have USB ports. I was looking at the Sony Bravia DAV-DZ170 and noticed it had a usb port. Will this system let me plug a portable drive to it? Or will any others? and let me play mp3 files/mp4/wmv/divx format songs and videos?

You know of course it's only dvd and will not do blu ray.

I dont use blueray anyways. What about the "Onkyo HT-S5400 7.1-Channel Home Theater Package w/USB ipod/iphone" for $280 on the accessories4less website. That looks like the better deal.

For what you need, avoid the Sony. They make great video equipment. Onkyo makes this stuff all the time.

The Onkyo is a receiver & as such will only play your music files. It doesn't have the necessary hardware to play video files.

It sounds like that Sony is pretty limited in what it will play too. I don't see Divx/WMV/MP4 in the specs. If you upgrade to Blu Ray, you will likely have much better luck. The Sony BD player I have (BDP-S590) will play almost anything you stick in it's USB port. You don't realize how rare that is until you've been through a few players.

I have that same Blu Ray player, and it's great. I also just got a Onkyo TX515 from TigerDirect for $299. It has two USB's, (one on the front), and ten HDMI, including one on the front.
