hi,
Currently I have a 2.1 stereo set up and was thinking of getting surround sound as I recently bought a new TV. The main room is both the kitchen and living room. At one end of the room is sofa and TV and the other kitchen. Where I sit and watch the TV Sofa to TV (wall to wall) is 300 cm. The room is much longer but I don't intend to re orient things and just use the width. Would you go for surround sound ? My sofa is against the wall and you can't fit speakers behind me (maybe bookshelf's on stands on the side of the sofa). From 2.1 to 5.1 means a new more expensive receiver and I may loose music quality. |

I have lots of pages open at the moment about surround sound but I didn't make my mind up 100% yet.
I thought I might lose quality going from stereo to surround. No matter what I read it usually stated that a surround sound receiver may not produce the same quality sound as stereo. I still listen to lots of music but would like to watch blu ray and dvd films in their best sound. The only thing is that is sounds thin. Getting a good receiver that could do stereo would just leave me a financial question |

The last thing I would choose is a soundbar - no reason you can't have a nice set-up and use stereo (2 sp only) for music to maintain the presence and soundstage and 5.1 surround for tv and movies.

i have a soundbar with the Sony bravia TV and its not up to my two floor standing JBL speakers and JBL subwoofer.
I'm not sure if I made a mistake buying my NAD Stereo Receiver several years ago but if I want surround sound I guess I will have to buy a AV receiver. I can't fit speakers behind the sofa though and the living room is small enough width wise. I have lots of questions of surround vs stereo like : Can I get existing sound quality out with a new surround receiver or able to switch to stereo ? Last edited by aindriu80; 11-05-2012 at 12:36 PM. cool, would you rate the surround sound as good as the stereo ?
For example at the moment I have a NAD Stereo Receiver C720BEE and I was recommended Yamaha RXV673. Using the same speakers the only difference in set up would be the receiver. |

I have a Denon 3311 (7.1) and it's an excellent AVR, with top notch 2 channel stereo musically outstanding.
