Help with dts sound

What does my sound from my computer sound so bad playing from my computer going in to my TV ? Dolby and such sounds fine.
All going thru my Denon reciever .. But DTS sounds just rotten.
Using VLC player . This is from a few movies I have stored on my Hard drive . 5450 ATI video card here . HDMI out.

Could it be a codec? I hate to just start downloading a bunch of them. You know,as some can be nasty,Plus it would have to be a codec for win-7 / 64 bit os .

I'd try a different player. DTS from a PC sounds great on my systems. It could also be the files you have. Are they full rips (video_ts, bdmv, iso) or are they individual files (mkv, iTunes download, etc)? Did you rip them yourself?
