Default Problems w/ Sony W5100 and Vizio VSB200 Soundbar

Hi,

First post...need help....

I have a Sony Bravia 46W5100 and a Vizio VSB200 Soundbar.
When I used a TOSLINK optical cable to connect my TV to the soundbar ..I get a flickering sound.

This also happens when I connect my PS3 directly to the soundbar.

When I use the RCA audio cables ..it works fine..

Please let me know if I am doing something wrong...

Thanks

Have you tried another optical cable to rule out if it is a bad 1. Also, verify that the connections on both sides are seated fully. If so, you may have a bad optical output on the soundbar.

Not sure if this matters, but if you are using HDMI with you PS3, I believe you need to activate the optical output in the PS3 audio menu. At least that was the case with the older PS3 models. But that would not cause the sound "flickering"..

Also, seen a few people complaining about this on another forum. This is 1 person's fix.

"I experenced the same problem when I first set mine up. I solved my problem by hitting the input button off and on several times. Sounds stupid I know but it worked for me. Good luck."

Well, since it happens when you hook the tv to the soundbar - and when you hook the PS3 to the soundbar - you pretty much have the problem isolated to the soundbar. Assuming that the soundbar is powered, try running an extension cord from a different outlet (another room) and power the soundbar. You may have a loop or ground issue.

Have you removed the small, clear protective caps from the ends of he Toslink optical cable?
