Default Harman Kardon 335 and BOSE speakers...

I just bought the Harman Kardon 335 receiver and am thinking about combining it with the BOSE Acoustimass 10 speakers.

The receiver has the new 7.1 channel support however the speakers are made for 5.1 ch. Can they still work properly with this receiver? Will there be any issues with the connections??

I know BOSE also makes the Acoustimass which is 6.1ch but is more expensive and still not 7.1 ch.

To be blunt, do not buy the Bose speakers PERIOD!

For the $1k the AM10 costs, you can get much better, or even get better for less than $1k. I tried the AM10 and there were gaps in music and movie soundtracks that I know were there with other speakers that didn't even come out of the Bose. After I tried them I sold them at my cost. I knew someone at Bose so they only cost me $350.00 instead of the $1,000.00 they retail for. I STILL couldn't live with them even at that price.

My friend who bought the AM10 from me as a starter system also bought the Bose powered towers to go 7.1. Through my contact and even with a whole system that retails for over $2,000.00, it didn't come close to matching a Klipsch system that cost 1/2 as much. He sold it all off and spent $700.00 on Klipsch and it sounds much better.

My own brother thought Bose was the best there is because of all the Bose marketing, and from what the Bose salesmen were saying (Bose provides high profit margins for the retailers), but I think I convinced him to talk to me before he buys anything. Being an older brother he might just listen to salesmen instead of his younger brother.

Funny how that sometimes works.

If you are going to spend $1k on a speaker system DONT spend it on blows no highs no lows. Look at the klipsch mini systems they cost the same and sound much better than blows. You can even spend $500 on a system and it will still sound better than blows. At BB they have an Athena system called Micra 6 that blows bose out of the water for $500. Match that with the HK and you will have a pretty sweet system and IMHO the Athenas look better also. Most people dont pay attention but you will never see a bose system next to any other speakers they always have their own display there is a reason for this. If I had a store I would buy a bose system and sit it in the same room as all of the other speakers and show people how bad they really are.

Of course then you wouldn't sell many (any?), but I think the separate area is a requirement of Bose, for the reasons you stated. They know their speakers don't hold a candle to anything similarly priced, and that is why their trademark should not be "Better Sound Through Research", it should be "Better Sound Through Marketing".

They also make sure the bass module (It's not a Sub) is at ear level also.

Default Bose

I agree with everyone else here. You can do better than the Bose speaker package. I prefer Infinity.
