Default bose wave radio or other?

My wife is hinting around she would like a bose wave radio with ipod doc. The price is 600 this is a pretty hard pill to swallow.

Got me thinking. Maybe it would be worth spending 600 dollars if I can put it toward a home theater system that I could connect to my pioneer plasma tv.

Requirements for my home theater would be:

1. dolby 5.1 sound or I need something with sound quality as good or better than a bose wave radio.
2. Connectivity to an ipod is also manditory.
3. Would prefer compact sized speakers, i don't need a huge 400W sound that can make my entire living room rumble I just need good quality audio.
4. Built in Radio tuner would be nice but not manditory
5. Budget is 600 dollars.

Can you suggest a home theater that would fit these requirements?

I heard you can just connect your TV to a bose wave radio but most of the reviews of the bose on the net that are not on the bose website seem to trend that the bose wave is nice but overpriced for the performance.

This would rock for a surround sound system to be used with your TV and it includes an Ipod dock - http://www.accessories4less.com/make...r-Ipod-/1.html

Thumbs up Home Theater

I wholeheartedly agree !! You absolutely CANNOT do any better than the Onkyo HT-S7200 for anywhere near the price !! This system decodes EVERY audio codec there is, including Dolby TrueHD and DTS MasterAudio. It has very good speakers, and plenty of power as well. It has an abundance of HDMI inputs, as well as all of the usual audio/video connections, including an iPod dock ! Set up is incredibly easy using the built in Audyssey set up program. You have never heard sound like this before. You and your wife will be absolutely flabbergasted !! This Onkyo will blow the $3000 Bose Lifestyle system out of the water ! Seriously ! And, by the way, stay as far away from Bose as possible ! Walmart has several clock radio/iPod docks that range from around $50 to $100 that are equal to or better than that $600 piece of plastic and paper that Bose sells to unsuspecting neophytes. Get the ONKYO !! You won't be sorry, and your wife will be ecstatic !!!! * *

Thumbs down HTiB

Exactly ! I don't understand why the manufacturers continue to produce receivers with HDMI passthrough instead of HDMI switching. So many people are disappointed when they get these receivers and find out that they can only get the core Dolby and DTS codecs, and only through optical/coaxial cables. Anyway, the HT-S6100/6200 series is a better choice than the HT-S5100/5200 !

Default onkyo

Is the Onkyo system easy to use for a non techy person. The BIG problem I have is that I am working in the middle east, and my family is in california. My 11 y/o she is pretty sharp with using electronics.. my wife on the other hand seems to have a hard time just trying to figure out how to get to the right input and screen and load up a hd-dvd on my xbox.

I would have the system professsionally installed but do you think your average person would be able to be able to easily operating it?

Smile Onkyo

Yes, it is very intuitive. And the built in Audyssey set up program will make sure that all of the speakers are performing perfectly, no matter their placement. The instruction manual has pictures and instructions for connecting any type of equipment. The HT-S6100/6200 has everything you need right in the box. It would be really hard to go wrong setting up the Onkyo HTiB system.

me ex-lass had a BOSE wave radio. Waved goodbye to her and her overpriced boombox. Biggest piece of over hyped crap that me ears ever had to put up with. And she was a Michael Bolton fan. Me tears dripped, then rolled,,,not because of Michael,,,but the fact that the "wave' machine was making him sound worse. oh the humanity,,,where's peta when you need them?
