1st Post: 1080 upconverter only coverts to 480
Hello all,
I have a phillips 47' lcd and a samsung 5.1 surround w/ 1080 upconversion, hooked up with a hdmi cable. my question is, when i play a dvd, the tv shows that the dvd is being played at 480. isnt it supposed to be upconverted to 1080? the 480 looks terrible.. is there something i need to fix or setup? Thanks all, Karim |

Is it 480i or 480p? If it is a HDMI upconversion, it should be sent to the TV as 720p or 1080i or whatever you set the player as. If it is being sent as 480p, your TV's scaler will upconvert it to its native resolution. But if the PQ is "terrible" like you stated, something appears wrong with the setup. Check in the DVD video output settings in the video menu or check the manual.
