Default Samsung HD dvd recorder questions

I bought a Samsung hd dvd recorder in July 07 mainly to record footbal games from my free to air satellite box because i didnt want to record using a vcr. Now since i have learned about hd stuff, i realized that indeed i got a decent one but knowing now and what i would like to do as far as recording in hd and stuff i dont think that this one is a great one; its a good one but not great. For instance, just tonite when i went to hook it back up to record a flick off of the adult channels lol, i noticed that it had a component OUT but no component INs. It has 1 HDMI out , 1 component out, and 1 S vid out and a regular AV OUT. I really wanted to hook up fast to record that flick as it had already started and I ended up hooking up S vid out from the dvd recorder to the tv with av cables and I came in from the fta box with a S vid and av an av cable. I would have liked to run it component out from the fta box to a component in on the dvd recorder if the recorder had a comp IN so i would get the best picture quality. Am i correct in the way i hooked it up is the best option i have via Svideo from the fta box to the recorder since it doesnt have a component IN? Also the fta box isnt HD but has a comp OUT and an S vid out ofcourse

Currently, there are no optical disc recorders sold in the U.S. that will record in HD. What you have is a standard definition DVD recorder that upconverts to 1080i or 1080p upon playback. Upconverted DVD is not true HD. Your options for inputs are S-Video, Composite video, and some models have a firewire input. S-Video is the best you can do for a format.

yeah and im thinking composite is better than Svid and thats what i was saying looks like my best option and really ONLY option on this one is Svid input to the dvd recorder as far as "Recording", anyway.

to be honest the only reason i bought a dvd recorder was because i know the vcr's were gona be phased out and my fta box isnt a dvr so i needed a way to record. I knew dvd was the best option and i figured if i was gona get one then the HD one was the way to go but it was sort of a rush thing. I wont worry bout recording movies and stuff right now mainly wanted to get my football games recorded when i wasnt to be at home. I just wanted to know what my best option or connection would be in my situation to be able to get the best picture when i do record off of my fta box and from what i saw the Svid is the best/only option really
