Default Does the PS3 upscale to 1080p???

Hi,

i just purchased a 1080p lcd tv this week. I own a PS3 which i have used to view blu-ray and additionally I had an upscaling DVD player which would upscale to 720p/1080i. My old TV was a 720p set. Will the PS3 upscale to 1080p or do I need a new 1080p upscaling dvd player to view my non-blu ray discs?

Thanks for any help.

The PS3 will upscale to 1080 and it doesn't really matter if it is I or P. Your TV will de-interlace the I signal and make it P anyway, if necessary.

Yes, your PS3 will scan your old DVD's 1080p/i and even 720p and 480i/p if selected and supported.

Bar none, your PS3 is the best DVD/Blu-ray player available... no matter what the haters say. They're just pissed thier days are numbered.

The PS3 does upscale to 1080p and it is a great Blu-ray player and very good player for many different types of media.

I like my PS3 very well, and the truth is everything's days are numbered.

HD DVD failed and eventually so will Blu-Ray (I hope not for some time).

I also hope someday soon something better will arrive to replace my PS3 as my main Blu-Ray player, my XA1 upscales slightly better and then it will go into another room to be for game play and Blu-Ray movie play back up.

Although we certainly agree the market will move away from Blu-ray at some future point, I wouldn't consider that a failure. HD DVD failed, that much we can agree on. Blu-ray succeeded in finding a market and all that remains is to see how big it will be and how long the market will last. I sure expect 2015 at a minimum before consumers move away from media like this entirely and then Blu-ray will not be replaced by another form of media, something else will be the latest and greatest way for consumers to watch HD at home making shiny 5" discs a thing of the past permanently. I just don't have a guess as to what or when.

I don't think HD-DVD failed in the eyes of the consumer. In the begining, HD-DVD PQ was all over BluRay. It all came down to $$$. So realistically, we won't know who would of been the 'latest and greatest'.

Uh, HD DVD is no more, Toshiba admitted failure and dropped the product with the usual comments about still believing HD DVD was the best product for the consumer's needs. The consumers that wanted HD DVD to continue on and the consumers that wanted HD DVD to fail, all have to admit HD DVD failed.

Lol, yes we know HD-DVD is no more. That is not what the debate is about. My point being that it wasn't the HD-DVD format itself that failed, but Toshiba conceding after Sony bought out the last studio that broke the camel's back.

I continually see this claim but have not seen any admission by Warner or Sony or the BDA that Warner was paid. I have read denials. The only confirmation of any payoff admitted first hand was the Toshiba payoff to Paramount/DreamWorks. If you have any proof or even evidence Warner received a payoff, please provide it.

HD DVD as format does work fine, no disagreement. It was clearly second best with second best support, thus it failed. Being less expensive didn't amount to anything as far as market results, but that was its main claim to fame.
