Default HDMI Audio Question

Greetings, long time lurker, first time poster.

I just purchased my first HDTV and DVD-recorder.

I have hooked the DVD recorder (Panasonic DME-EZ27) to the TV (Toshiba 42HL167) via HDMI. I notice about 40-50% less audio when watching a DVD or an off the air program through the recorder. I have looked at the manuals but can not find anything that would allow me to adjust the audio level. Any ideas?

Thanks

Rich

Have you tried a different audio signal connection? Coax, if availavle or R?L stereo cables to the TV? It is not like you have any HD recorded . . .

I thought of trying that but just have not had the time. So I can run HDMI for video only and analog to the TV?

OK, tried to use the analog audio but no difference. Seems that my BUD satellite audio is about the same level as off the air. So i am pretty convinced that it is the DVD recorder that has the low audio output.

Please more fully describe your connection scheme, more particularly, how is connected to the source from wich you routinely record.

Default volume, dynamic range

is it the same sound? did you try turning the volume up? is compresing the dynamic range an option? through the cable box, dvd recorder, or tv, check them all. normally helps with loud commercials. but it could help with quiet stuff.

I am comparing OTA to the TV vs OTA through the DVD-Recorder. The DVD-Recorder is connected to the TV via HDMI. Nothing fancy except the BUD satellite directly to the TV via R/L audio. It appears the DVD-Recorder attenuates the audio about 25%
