Okay, I'm a newbie so please forgive my ignorance. If I've read this post correctly than I would see a better picture out of my regular DVDs if I get an up-converting DVD player? I have a Sony 60" LCD rear projection HDTV. Any idea how much better a picture? 10%? 20%? Thanks! As a neophite HD fan this site is a big help!

Having just purchased an upscaling Denon DVD-1910, I can say, that speaking for myself, that "yes" the upscaling does make the content look better. In some cases, much better.

Why? Especially when the TV has to upscale it anyway. Beats me, but I think it was mentioned in jojojojo's post that perhaps the upscalers (e.g. Faroudja) in the DVD players have much better algorithms than those on the TVs. I don't know, but I set my DVD player to 720p and my set has a native 768p display. It looks great.

So, if I understand the above correctly, there is no benefit to use the progressive scan option from the DVD player (Pioneer Elite 45a) for a CRT 1080i based display, since the display would have to re-interlace from the 480p out of the DVD player. Is this correct? Thanks.
