Default Anyone know of a DVD recorder with component INPUTS?

It seems like every DVD player has component outputs. I am trying to find one with component INPUTS. Does anyone here know of any particular models?

I am trying to offload recorded content from my cable box. A lot of the content is in high def. I know that I cannot maintain the HD content(I have tried to figure out ways to do that but could not do so)........ but I do not want to drop all the way down to using an S-video cable.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

TC

Seems that S-video is the best way to go; I've not yet found any machines with component input.

As for HD, it's pretty much a no-brainer that HD cannot be maintained when transferring to a standard DVD, but it's a shame that there does not seem to be any way to maintain the full screen aspect ratio. It seems that the best today's equipment will do is to present the transferred HD as SD content with black bars on the top, bottom and sides.

It really depends on the DVR. My U-verse DVR has a SD widescreen output setting that allows HD material to be recorded in the 16:9 aspect ratio with no bars, unless the HD had bars originally.

Like Scottnot said, I don't know of ant DVD recorders with component video inputs. Personally I use my Hauppauge 1212 HD-PVR Video Capture device to offload HD from my DVR. It records in HD.

Just checking for understanding . . .
You mean the U-verse can playback HD material in "SD widescreen" and output that (over S-video) to a SD DVD recorder . . . and when the DVD is played you still get fullscreen 16:9 aspect ration?

I've tried every possible configuration with my FIOS, Motorola QIP6416-2, all with no joy.

I have read rbinck's favorable comments on the hauppage device. The product seems great but before I can invest in one of those I will need a new computer which can support it. I will probably purchase one next year after the new USB 3.0 standard is fully available.

For now it would be nice to locate a DVD recorder with the component inputs. I am especially curious to see if there is one out there which could compare with the Hauppage product. My guess would be no, that any DVD recorder on the market would probably record at 480 definition. It seems like Hollywood has gone out of their way to an extreme to prevent us from making high quality recordings.

Anyway, I will keep digging around. If I uncover anything in this area I will report back just in case anyone else is interested.

If you can find it.

The Sony RDR-HX900 can do both -R and +R DVD's with component input/outputs.
