Default A nice remote around $50-$75?

I am looking for a Remote and while I have read A LOT in here about the Harmony remotes the numbers dont seem to mean much to me like I have seen some people talk about the Harmony 550 and others the Harmony 880 the Harmony One, etc, etc... which one is better? Why?

I am not looking to spend a lot cause as much as sure it would be nice to have the one remote do all sorts of stuff in all reality I have been dealing with 2-3 remotes for years now so no biggie BUT if I can find one for a good price (even if it isnt a Harmony) I would.

I was at Target with my Wife earlier and was just wasting some time in the electronics and saw a Harmony 610 for $49.99 http://www.target.com/Logitech-Harmo...harmony&page=1 , is it any good? Is it NOT worth getting over a different model? Only problem I saw is I went to Harmony's website and didnt see it listed anywhere so is it an old out dated model? Everything can still be programmed in I would assume but can you still be remotely helped with it as I have read about other ones?

I would want it to control my Panny Plasma, DVR Explorer 8300HDC, Toshiba DVD player, Sony CD player, Xbox360 (not absolutely necessary), and also my Sony Reciever, And I will probably be adding a Panny Blu-Ray hopefully sooner than later. Also does any of these universal remotes control Viera on the Panny's?

I do currently have the remote from the DVR programmed for everything (minus the Xbox360) however thats only like on/off volume and such doesnt switch my reciever from TV to DVD and such, doesnt really do much with the DVD player either but on/off.

Thanks all for input

The 610 works very well and for the price, it can't be beat.

Thanks just wasnt sure if it was "that" out of date or something and end up being rendered useless.

I had a harmony 676 for a few years and then just upgraded recently to the Harmony One. I love both remotes. Every Harmony remote uses the same software, so you really need to look at the different models in respect to the button layouts. Some of the models that cost more may have color LCD or give you 6 options in the LCD as opposed to 4.

My 676 wasn't an extremely popular model, but I went with it because it had dedicated A and B buttons that I used for my DVR. Just make sure it has the buttons you need and maybe some extra that you can customize (my 'E' button is used to scroll through TV inputs). However, you can add any button you need to the LCD screen.

I don't mean to hijack this thread but I didn't think my question warranted a new one. Is the 520 a good remote? Thank you.

I got the Harmony 550 at tiger direct almost 2 years ago onsale for $75 and love it. The buttons are big enough for me and the backlight is nice. Battery life on it is good too. In the 2 years I had it I only changed the batteries 3 times (the 3rd time being just last week). I love the activities feature and it handles ALL my suff very well including:

Vip622
A2 HD DVD
X360 with HD DVD addon
SS receiver
HP Plasma TV
Panasonic Blue Ray player
I have not added my Wii yet..

IO don't know anything about the 610, but for only $49, looks like a nice deal.

Amazon has the 550 onsale for $75 shipped. A good deal as well. Looking at the 2 side by side with the button layout and features for you and your wife should be the real test..Beach Camera has the 550 for only $59 shipped.

From what I read, the 520 is a very nice remote, especially for only $50.. Aside from the color scheme and a few less buttons, I think it is basically the same as the 550. I am not sure if the 520 is has back lit keys like the 550. The up and down arrow buttons and also the 4 buttons just below the # pad are missing on the 520. They are the Sound, Picture, and A, B buttons on the bottom below the number pad. The 550 has them. If those features are not worth the extra $20, the 520 is good to go.

Here is a good sticky on remotes and their differences.

I picked up the Harmony 670 for my bedroom system at Amazon.com for around $79. I like it a lot!

Now when these remotes state that they can control up like 5 devices is that including the TV as well? Or meaning 5 devices total? Cause adding all mine up its 6 including my TV and either can have it not control something (like the Xbox) or maybe get a remote that can handle everything.

I guess.. But the 550 controls up to 15 I believe and the 520 up to 12, so not sure what remote you are talking about..

I'm not sure. Logitech tech support is awesome! I would give them a call to find out.
