and good god it's going to take some time to learn to program this thing! I got very lucky - scored one for freeeeee...now I have to get all the firmware loaded on my home PC and start programming this thing. Can't wait though, it's my first universal. I'm so tired of the 5 remotes in my living room.

How'd you get it for free? That looks like a sweet piece of equipment you got there.

Now that you have had it a while, what do you think? I attended a programming training class a while ago. Programming seemed very nice. Unfortunately the people I sell to are happy and entrenched with the URC remote lines
I am concerned with the battery replacement issue. There is no way to replace the battery once it can no longer take a charge. The only way to get it fixed is to mail it back to Nevo. When I asked the trainer about this, I was told 3-4 weeks turn around. |

Well, to be honest, I definitely did not need a programming class. But I do work in the software industry (though I'm not a programmer - I'm an analyst.) I found the Nevo configuration studio to be really cool - very easy to use. I still haven't figured out how to implement custom graphics/buttons but the ones they have are fine. I really like this remote. I know it's really expensive and much of that has to do with the bling-factor and capabilities that I'm not actually using (e.g. Wifi, controlling dimming in my house, controlling room temp., et al.) I use it strictly for my HT setup so there's 5 devices programmed. I'm sure that most good Harmony remotes do the same things, but given my price, clearly I have scored a winner. I'm very grateful. The only problems I've had, which probably have a resolution that I haven't spent time to find, are that a few functions on 1-2 remotes don't seem to port into the Nevo. One is my "Bypass" mode on my receiver which I use all the time to defer my music to the DAC's on my Denon. There's one other one that's given me trouble. But I think I just need to spend some time on it. Anyways, I think the remote is a classy piece of equipment that I use exlusively in place of my original 5 remotes. Is it worth $800-$1000 to a standard HT user? Probably not, but I guess it depends on your priorities and your affinity for gadgetry. If you have other more specific questions by all means ask away. |
