I have the 880 and love it. Im looking to buy a harmony remote for my fathers bday, but i dont think he really needs something as high tech as the 880.
Are the lower model harmony remotes still pretty much the same? I want to be able to easily program it and have him hit 'watch tv' or 'watch dvd' and have it do all the work.. Reason i say this, is i have his plasma mounted on the wall, and all of the components are in another room. So w/o being able to see the components, it makes it tougher for him. I dont want him to have to mess with 4 remotes to get everything the way he wants it, or use one remote, but have to turn on everything individually. He still gets a kick out of it when i hit 'play xbox 360' and you can watch the 880 turn on and off components, switch inputs, etc..., all with one button. Can the other models (550, 670, etc.) do the same? |

I believe all harmony remotes use the same software. I think the difference between models is the button layout and the # of activities. I would imagine all have the watch movie and watch DVD at the minimum.
I have the 676 and the main reason I got it was because it had dedicated "A" and "B" button that the others didn't have. I like the A and B since my SA8300HD uses them, though I could have just as easily gotten a different model and programmed the A and B to the LCD. The 676 seems to be around $85 at Amazon. |

Before I bought the Harman Karden TC30, I looked at the Harmony 720 and I thought it was superb.
I actually liked it better than many of the other Harmony remotes. I ended up getting the TC30 because of the reviews and the charging base was so good and easy to use. But, I still like the 720 alot!

i ended up just ordering a harmony 550 from amazon.com for $80. It looks as if it'll do everything he needs it to do, and more.

You'll be fine. Like you said , if it's for your father it's more than enough. I also was trying to figure out to get the HK TC-30 or the Harmony 720. I went with the 720.................Love It.

They all have their pos/negs... I think the 720 and TC 30 are excellent remotes.
