Default Ditching Sony - Are the Mitsubishi RP DLP's any good, reliable?

Due to getting screwed by the Sony Optical block issue on my 60" RP LCD, I'll never buy another Sony product. I'll get rid of the set for whatever I can even if I have to give it away.

I am now looking into the Mitsubishi RP DLP's. Any thoughts on these?

The word problematic comes to mind...

I have had my Mitsubishi for three years now and except for a changing of the bulb after two years I have had no problems....my set is used a lot...People in my house are all sports, movie, news and political junkies...The set is on at least 12 hours a day 7 days a week...I have a 52 inch WD 52631 and use TW Cable..

I sold my Sony RPTV last year in perfect working condition, with a year left on a transferable service contract. The warranty made a big diff in price as well as time in selling it (2 days). Never a 'bulb' set again!

Hello ,For what've read about mitsubishi tv and of fixing them they are not reliable. One of the most common failure (besides the green light of death, research about that on google)its that the lamps need to be replaced every year, the ballast also fails which is the board that powers the lamp, the colo0r wheel the one in charge of producing the colors.I also heard of the overheating that causes the lamp to blow sooner. You will need to clean the fans every once in a while. My recommendation is to get either a Hitachi or Panasonic, those rarely come in for repair.

Neither Panasonic or Hitachi are making DLP TV's.

I prefer Pioneer and Panasonic plasma for a truly accurate HD picture.

It is doubtful any rear projection, DLP or otherwise would even rank with the lowest on either of these lists:

There's a reason why the big box retailers (such as HHGregg in my area) are practically giving away the Mits DLPs. Thankfully, the days of white hot lamps, noisy cooling fans, color wheels, and optical block/light engine meltdowns are just about a thing of the past.

Except for front projectors, that is.

I've had my DLP for a year and a half and it's still tickin'. I know it's just a matter of time before I have to change the "infamous" lamp. However I wish I'd purchase an extended warranty.
