Default Problem connecting PS3 component cables to Toshiba

Hey everyone.
I have a Toshiba rear-projection HD TV. I'm not sure exactly what model or how old it is. I inherited it and I can't find a model ID on it. It's about 50 inches, if I remember, and it's probably 4 years old or so.

I plugged my PS3 cables into the HD-1 input in the back of the TV using component cables. I turned on the PS3 and went to Colorstream HD-1 and no picture or sound or anything. I switched the cables to HD-2 and changed to that, same thing. When I switched the audio the speakers on the TV made a semi-loud thump, so in my limited tech knowledge, that tells me it's doing something, at least.

But I'm kind of at a loss. It's probably a really simple problem, but beyond the step of 'plug that in there,' I don't really know much about TVs. So at this point I've exhausted my knowledge. Any ideas?
Thanks

p.s. I don't know if this would affect anything, but the back corner behind the TV has a significant layer of dust from all the drywall from redoing my kitchen. I checked the cables when I unplugged them and they were clean, so I don't think there's anything clogging up the inputs. And yes, now that I've found it, I will clean up the back of my TV.

You should post the whole model/brand info for devices you need help on so we can give the most complete help in the future.

Make sure the output setting on the PS3 is set to component output first. I do not remember if the PS3 sends out the signal to both HDMI & component at the same time.

Also remember that the component cables do NOT carry audio so you would have to send the stereo output from the PS3 to the matching stereo input for the component input used on the display.

Hope this helps & welcome to the forum!

Hi,
I know this post is very old. We had the PS3 plugged into our home cinema system using an HDMI cable, but we moved, lost the home cinema and now I am looking at using the PS3 with my regular TV which is a Toshiba 44NHM84 (from 2005).
I bought component cable and plugged it in, the sound works but no image.
Can anyone help me, I can't seem to find info on the web!

Make sure the ps3 is set to output to the component jacks.

Make sure you are using 5 cables. RGB to the video input that also has a R/W for left and right audio. If i remember correctly, it was easy on those displays to plug in the component cable into a different jackpack for video and audio.

Also check resolution output and input settings.

The problem is the video output settings on your PS-3. I've had the same issue. To get around this, you have to hook it back up to a TV with HDMI and component inputs. Go to the video settings on the PS3 and set it to the component out. Then switch the TV over to the component input of the TV so you can confirm the change of video settings. You'll most likely also have to change the audio routing as well.
Hope this helps.

I've seen this a few times before when someone moves a PlayStation 3 from a higher resolution set to a lower res one or different output. I apologize in advance if you've already tried this. You can reset the PlayStation 3's settings by holding down the power button when you start it up until it beeps again. This will reset all the settings to standard def, and you'll have to adjust them again, but it should work in the end.

Let us know what you figure out.
