Default How to clean mirror on JVC 52" DLP?

Hi all.

First post, just found the forum.

I have a JVC HD-52FA97, close to two years old. First lamp was replaced today. Wow, I forgot how good this TV used to look.

Now I can notice about 3 dark spots around the screen.

The TV has two faux vents on either side of the screen. I took one off and there is some dust inside. And is that a huge mirror in the back of the set?

I'm guessing the spots are from the DLP mirror though.

Can I use a soft blower such as for use on a camera lens (the one with a bulb) and blow on the DLP mirror?

What about the mirror on the inside?

Does anyone know of service manual for this model? The dust inside the unit is annoying, but if it's better off left alone I will.

Thanks.

You can clean the miror as you would clean any other miror.
Just don't put too much pressure on it;and don't spell any liquid in the tv.

The HD-52FA97 is not a DLP. It was one of JVC's now discontinued D-ILA line that used LCoS (Liquid Crystal on Silicon) technology. (This was the same technology used by Sony in their SXRD line). DLP's use a totally different, non-LCD-based, technology involving millions of vibrating micro-mirrors.

The mirror you see is part of the optical block used to magnify the small image (less than 1" diagonally) formed by the LCoS chips up to the size required to fill the 52" projection screen. Extreme care is needed to clean it to avoid scratching or throwing out its alignment.

Thanks for the tip!

So basically I shouldn't touch it all?

Should a gently blow of clean air be ok?

And to be sure we're talking about the same thing... this is the mirror or optical block as it's called that's right in front of the lamp? Would a spec of dust there cause the dark spots?

What about the large mirror inside the set?

Do you know if the service manual is available for download somewhere?
