Default universal remote - Logitech Harmony 880?

what do you guys think of the Harmony 880 universal remote?
Anybody using this with their setup?
Good: re-chargable docking station (no batteries!), usb for updated devices so will not be outdated, lcd screen to select by activity like 'play dvd'
Bad: IR only, no RF

Thanks
KG

Just ordered mine. You can get some good prices with a little searching.
The lack of RF is not a big inconvenience for me, the programming ease is a huge plus along with WAF.
A charger would be a big plus. I understand the 880 eats up batteries fairly fast.

I'm not familiar with the 880 model...with the 680 vs something like a sony command I've always personally felt that the Harmony was more user friendly and the commander was better for over-all feature access/customability.

The annoying thing about the Harmony, at least with the 680, is if you are looking for a specific feature you have to scroll across several pages on the small view screen, that have a horrible/overlapping text display. But for most things, and most people, it is easier to use.

I believe an 880 just came out! I ordered the 688...sorry for any confusion. Yes, the review on remotecentral.com mentioned the screen display as well the way it moves present functions to another page when you program in additional ones later, and also getting used to the small buttons. Overall, the drawbacks were few and minor compared to the advantages.

You might want to check out www.hometheatermaster.com too - I just got a MX-500 remote from them and it's very easy to use and program. The macro function programming is also very intuitive and simple to use. I got mine from newegg.com for $83.00 - list is like $169.00.

They also have some crazy expensive ones you can use with a PC to program.

Default that was an interesting read

thanks billk for that link, but i think H880 will be easier to program as I have no patience whatsoever and no time either.
Plus, I want something that my mother can operate....
And i also love the fact that it uses rechargable batt. I am just tired of running out of batteries just when i was gearing up for my fav. program(s) !
daleb, i was just thinking reading your 1st post, wait a minute, 880 DOES have a charger and it DOES NOT eat up batteries fast and where the heck did u get one let alone find a good price on it !!!

Of course, later i read your 2nd post and it made sense... :-)

THey have postponed the release to mid-July now, so will have to wait. Will post here once i get it...

Tiger Direct and Buy.com had good prices. They even beat HIFIforLess which is one of my favorite places to look around

TigerDirect is going to bankrupt me. They are not the cheapest but probably the best etailer on the web. And no, I don't work for them but have probably paid for more than a couple of ther employees.

Abe's of maine has this remote for 200 and 10 for shipping. And, I'm pretty sure it's not pre-order, either. I'm probably going to wait to get mine until some more retailers have it, hopefully with some more price competition.

You can get it for 188 here. Shipping is even less I think.

I hope they don't. I buy their Amazon replacement ink cartridges all the time.

Default nope, not available anywhere....

daleb/wassim
None of those places have it 'In Stock' as I suspected.
July it is, i guess....and I agree on waiting until some retailers get it in stock to get some price-wars going.....!
