Default Samsung HL-P5063W picture is only in black and white

Ok so I have had a Samsung HL-P5063W 50" DLP for over 4 years. A few weeks ago the lamp burnt out, so I bought a new lamp, installed it and turned the TV back on. It fired up fine, but the image is constantly in black and white. The image is moving, the sound is fine, but it is black and white. Also this is true across all inputs. Any ideas? Thanks!

Sounds like your color wheel died.

that is my initial thought... and i will be the first to admit i am new to this... my question is why would i still find color in the menu. the menu itself is blue and there is an image for the input menu that features red, blue and green i think. definitely red though.

Have you checked all of the connectors in the back of the TV and made sure the are all connected properly and fitting snugly? And if that is the case, have you gone into the settings menu and checked the color setting? If all of these things are correct, it would be time to contact an authorized repair facility or check the color wheel.

It look like a board problem; did you open the tv when you change the bulb; maybe a connector was affected.

update:

so i just got ambitious and decided to inspect the color wheel... upon removal i found the wheel to spin freely and there was no evidence of it rubbing against anything. the wheel was crystal clear. So i reinstalled it and put it all back together and still am only getting a picture in black and white.

i also checked all the connectors around the input board and couldn't find anything that was loose.

It sounds like either an input issue with your TV or a cable issue.

it is definitely an input issue with the tv... not the cable. i plugged in a dvd player through the RCA input and that was black and white...

any idea what could be wrong with the input board?

so all the RCA inputs are black and white... including the one of the side. I have not checked the component plug in yet.

Was this input working just before replacing the lamp?
If so, follow that jack signal; it's probably a mechanical problem.

I am also having the same issue and would like to know if you have solved this problem. Everything is black and white, even the menus. I hope I can learn from you all the root cause.

Kind Regards,

Todd

Hi,Most likely it could be an issue with the color wheel.Bad color wheel symptoms are : buzzing, whirling, vibrating and high pitch sounds.Color discoloration (like pink skin or different colors)black and white picture. It could also be the DMD and this is how it works:http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/dlp1.htm Good luck and God bless your house,Job and life .
