I have been looking over the forums for month now, great info all over the place. I recently got a 60 inch Sony KDF-E60A20 from a friend for around 400.00. He bought it new in 2006 and used it until he upgraded and sold it to me, never had to replace a bulb in it. Its been great for the last 2 months until today. The problem is the set turns on fine runs for about 1 minutes then goes black(no picture no sounds), then the picture and sound come right back on for another minutes then off for 30 seconds. The lamp light doesn’t come on and no other indicator lights blink. I did a little research and the only thing I found is the lamp is shot, which im ok with I got a good deal on the TV so I have no problem replacing it. just want to know what you guys think before I go and spend $140.00 on a new lamp.
Thanks |

I have the same TV and I recently started having the same issue. The issue is , there is to much dust on the bulb. Take off the back panel and spray some compressed air over the bulb and clean out the fan. The dust is burning on the lamp which is causing the safety switch or breaker to shut down the bulb. I cleaned mine today and it works like new. Give it a try and let me know.

Did this solution work? I have a KDF-60WF655 which has the same symptoms and is about 3-4 years old. Original lamp but the lamp light does not blink. Only audio/video goes out and comes back on...weird. I will try this tonight to see if I can clean the lamp and let you know how it goes.

Our tv works fine for two years until yesterday when we switched to a new lamp. Tv turns itself off and red light start blinking. Took out the lamp to see what was wrong and the lamp felt pretty hot.
it seems pretty easy to replace, I can't figure out what went wrong. I try to rule out that it was dust (lamp is 1 day old). Any ideas? tyvm oh i saw this on sony.. is it relevant? Just to confirm, I cleaned off the lamp with some compressed air and now it works like a charm. The TV has not shut down one bit since then! Thanks to everyone who's contributed to this thread.

I believe all of the users who posted here have already found their solution, they only needed a can of compressed air. |

Kissmint, thank you for that post re: Sony's optical block repair. I have a KDF-E50A10 with the dreaded blue haze/blob issue. I read that Sony's "recall" of the optical block ended December 31st of last year, and assumed I was SOL. I called the number you provided, and they confirmed the information in your post. Now my issue is that my set is a 2005 model not covered by the recall. I am continuing to escalate within Sony to see if I can get this covered. We shall see.

THANKs SSGCurtis for your post it saved me lot of trouble and time.
I have a KDFE60A20 bought in 2006 worked just fine up until y'day, It would stay on for a couple of minutes then shut it selves down. It would come back up again after a wait for couple of mins or so and keep repeating this. Fortunately the solution is simple. There is dust on the lamp. A switch detects abnormality and turns/shuts the TV down I removed the front panel , opened up the access to the lamp , did NOT remove the lamp, used compressed air cans to blast the dust away (it was visible) used a vacuum cleaner made sure it looked clean and viola it works just fine now! Again thanks for SSGCurtis and others who posted on this forum saved me from a lot of trouble. |

My Sony Grand Wega KDF-E60A20 is 4 yrs old and while viewing, the sound and picture goes out as if the tv was turned off. After several seconds both return. I have fixed this in the past by blowing air in the back, cleaning the fan area. That worked for several months but now even cleaning it doesn't fix the problem. I'm not sure if it’s a lamp problem or a lamp ballast problem since the sound goes out with the picture. What's the problem?
