I have this issue whether the source is in color or black and white. Blue sky has the same red band with bluish green at the bottom. I have an extended warranty and the tech is supposed to be coming out Thursday, will post after then and let you know what he says.

I like your idea of living with it for now if you can tolerate it and getting something else in the future. So far, HD tech has been steadily improving while prices steadily drop. If you choose an lcd or plasma flat panel set from a first tier manufacturer for your next one, chances are it'll be a whole lot more reliable.

Good luck.

Ok Ratdaddy...tech just left my house. Definitely optical block. He will order the block and be back to install it in a week or so. Sony needs to step up to the plate on this one!

If have the same Sony TV with exactly the same problem. Mine is from december 2006. Bought here in the Netherlands.
They also said to me that there where no problems in their database with this TV and optical block. So if it was a problem with the optical block it would be an isolated problem. 30 dec. 2008 a service guy is coming here and i will show him this posting!
For me this is also my last Sony.

It seems to me that Sony has had excessive problems with the optical block and in many cases are not accepting responsibility, that is not repairing it under warranty. It's time for all US Sony owners to contact the Federal Trade Commission and their congressmen/senators to demand Sony do a recall and repair of all affected models.

It's time Sony was held accountable for their actions and inaction as the case may be.

Sony announced (finally) an extended warranty on the optical block on KDF-XXE2000 sets. If you paid out of pocket they will reimburse you , but the deadline in January 29. Also, they will replace the optical block through June 10, 2010. Sorry SONY...TOO LATE to get this cu stomer back. Heres the link. http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/new...&template_id=1

Why would you want to give Sony any more money when the previous product failed? I don't get it...
