Just post the pics in a post here.

Can the plastic cover on that cap be removed?

You might want to get a service manual to see what the start up sequence is. It could be the color wheel (or the motor that spins it) is bad, but it could be that something else is faulting out so it never starts because it comes after the faulty item in the start up sequence.

Talking Update - tv works now!

We've been having the "TV turning itself off" issue now for a few months. The last 2 weeks it became ridiculous - turning off after being on for 10 seconds!

We read through this entire thread and taped the switch down a million different ways. We also cleaned out all the dust. Neither solved the problem.

So, we followed what some previous posters said and using the exact lamp info on the label on the side of our TV, we ordered a brand new bulb with the housing from Discount-Merchant (I'm not allowed to post the entire URL because I don't have enough history on this site??) It was $119.

My husband installed it today and VOILA....problem is solved

Default THE EASY FIX - Made To Break had the right answer!!

This was SO QUICK & EASY! Our Samsung DLP HL-S6186W kept shutting off -- any time we turned it on (it just kept getting worse as time went by).

We did what Made To Break suggested... we opened the lamp cover in the back of the TV (it's probably 5" x 5" with only one screw) vacuumed everything while we were at it and used a piece of black electrical tape (1") to tape the little blue lever down. (You don't have to touch anything else -- he kind of scared me with his electrocution talk!) VOILA!! Problem fixed!!!

THANKS "MADE TO BREAK" you MADE MY DAY!!! LOL!!!

Default Samsung turning on and off

Hi, I have a Samsung UN46B8000XF LED/LCD. I bought it in December 2010 and for the past 2 months it has been turning off a few times a night. When I turn it back on it would come on right away until 2 nights ago when it went off and wouldn't turn back on. Now there is a clicking sound like it is trying to turn itself on but nothing happens so I unplugged it and everytime I plug it back in I get the same constant clicking. I read other responses regarding Ballasts and Color Wheels and Bulbs but I don't rcognize the model numbers. Does this sound like it could be a Ballast problem for my model too? I would really appreciate the help. Thanks.

Take it back. It's still under warranty. Don't waste yer time trying to diagnose the problem.

[quote=Made To Break;1097219]If your Samsung DLP keeps turning off, please read this, a small piece of tape can safely and effectivly fix the problem and save you lots of time and money.

Remove the lamp access panel, tape the blue door switch to the DOWN position, put the access panel back on.---------

this actually did the trick for me, i took off the panel/cover, taped the blue switch on the down position, re installed the cover, turned on the tv(it actually turned on this time), waited and waited(for it to turn off)... well, it never turned off by itself. i'l keep you guys posted if something goes wrong.... thanks for the advice!!!! i can't believe i waited months and missed some good shows just because i was too lazy to search for the answer online. hehe.... thanks again!!!

My DLP has started to do this as well. It is about 4 years old, and had started turning itself off occasionally about 3 months ago. Now it does so for the first 2 to 3 hours I use it, but it takes longer each time, and eventually stops, making me think it is not a heat problem, or a problem with the sensor.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I have a 56" HLP5663W that every now and then would turn itself off shortly after being turned on. About a year ago I put in a new lamp thinking this would help. It didn't really, would still happen once in a while. Now, however, it happens every time I turn on the tv. Sometimes I only need to turn it back on once or twice but sometimes as many as 9 times in a row before it will stay on. Once it decides to stay on it's good until you actually turn it off but it's really frustrating to have to keep turning it on.
Any help would be greatly apprecitated.

Ok, I have a 46" LN46A650 LCD. A little over 3yrs old. Never had a problem with it. Last Friday night, out of the blue, it started making this loud buzzing noise, so loud I could barely hear my husband talking over it. We immediately turned the TV off and it stopped. Left it off for a couple of hours, thinking it had overheated or something. Turned it back on later that night, picture was fine, but no sound, only a quieter buzzing. Then it started turning itself on and off. We unplugged it and left it overnight. Next morning, turned it on, sound was fine, but picture gone, only vertical lines running all across the screen. Left it off and unplugged all weekend, tried again today, picture and sound came on for about 4 seconds, then the screen froze and kind of jumped around and sound went out. Any ideas??

Time to call the repair shop or replace that TV.
