Default Buy warranty or not for KDF55XS955

I bought this TV from BestBuy about 3 weeks ago and did not buy the extended warranty that is offered for $399 for 4 years. I believe it covers bulb replacement also (that's what the guy told me). I have another week to decide if I should get the warranty since it's no longer available to be bought after 30 days. Should I get it?

Default Buy the warantee

Yes, it's worth the peice of mind. If it breaks two years from now, you're covered. It's $400 insurance against another $2500+ purchase.

I purchased it from Best Buy and use my tv as a tv and don't worry about it breaking.

it 's worth, it is peace of mind and you can use tv freely no to worry about bulb life. bulb replacement alone could cost you $200 and you need it to be replace after 8000 hours use, basically u are paying $200 for warranty which is good to protect $3000 tv.

So I am correct in that BestBuy's warranty covers bulb replacement? Has anyone actually called upon BestBuy to replace their bulb as part of the warranty? I was wondering if they gave you any problems. I'm always concerned about retailers honoring their warranties. Thanks for your replies.

u can go online and read the details of BB warranty, read the fine prints. i am not a bb fan because they give you so much hassel replacing warranty item, i have always goodluck with CC that is why i never consider Bb for any expensive item purchase. best place for extended waarranty is Costco and Sams club, they are cheaper and warranty starts after manufacture warranty ends, this how it should be.
when i was buying a TV at CC, they were giving a brand new tv cost $3000 in replacement after original was used for 35 months repaired three times for same problem, good service. CC also remote free of charge during warranty peiod buld is also included in the warranty.

I'm not a warranty person in general. Even Consumer Reports recommends not getting one, except for expensive and new technologies, ie-digital televisions. I read the print on my BB warranty and it includes bulb replacement. I would definitely get one. And use the yearly free maintenance just to make sure you're getting optimal performance. My BB will send a guy out for free. So the most that will cost is something cold to drink and a friendly smile.
In regards to BB giving another poster a hard time for returning items, but I've never had a problem. Earlier this month I had the receiver in the garage repaired 16 days before it expired. No problems. Not only that, but I mentioned my computer is doing something a little odd and the guy told me to bring it in for a free diagnostic eventhough I didn't buy it there. Maybe the customer service in southern CA is different due to the customers being atypical when compared to the rest of the country.

Just had my bulb replaced under extended warranty... it cost $369 for the 4 years after the manufacturer's period... I figure I've recouped $200 so far...

How many hours would you estimate you used before the bulb had to be replaced? And I thought the 4 yr BestBuy warranty includes 1 yr of the manufacturer's warranty so really only 3 years right?

Default Check with Sony!

Hello, I own a Sony LCD television and did not purchasthe extended warranty. I just cant see spending $400.00 on top of the $3,200.00 I paid for the TV. The set comes with a one year warranty wich will cover all repairs including the lamp (wich you will need). Go to www.sonystyle.com and click on extended service plans then click on consumer electronics you will find info on Sony's extended service plans that are alot cheaper than the in store plans. For example, my TV was $3,200.00 and it costs $79.00 to extend the warranty 2 years after my manufacturer's warranty runs out. This also covers power surges, lightning, and lamps. I figure I'll probably be ready to purchase another set by then or I could just extend it again. Check it out.

I would consider the 3 year plan, which is still a great deal for another 100 bucks. And about half what most plans cost. I did not find the lamp info that clear. I know it is replaced free under the initial 1 year warranty.

Lamps last about 8000 hours... if you ran your TV 24/7/365 it's about 8000 hours per YEAR.

My lamp only lasted for about 9 months. I hope the new one will last a bit longer.

Unless there is a great deal of quality control during the manufacture of the lamp, I think there is a fair amount of variation between any two.

Those SonyStyle extended warranty plans look pretty attractive, but I have read elsewhere that they can only be purchased if you buy your Sony product directly from Sony. The poster stated that he had called the SonyStyle site number and obtained this information.

Has anyone purchased a Sony LCD RPTV from Sears, BestBuy, CC, etc. and then purchased an extended warranty/service plan from this SonyStyle web site?

Actually, when you break down the numbers, you are paying for about one lamp in advance when you purchase other than Sony, plans.
So take the price of one blown lamp out of the picture, they cost about the same. The Sony plan is underwritten by another company (Service Net Solutions). It is a service plan, not an additional or extended Sony warranty.
I think it is just another product Sony is pushing on the website. I believe you can buy it no matter where you bought your display (as long at it was an authorized retailer). At least as far as I can tell filtering through the legalese on the website.
