Default Dead Pixels on a projection?

Recently my aunt gave me a Sony kf-42we610 which she was replacing. She said she had not used it in over a year because it stopped showing a picture. I told her it was probably the bulb and it was easy to fix yet she wanted to get a new LCD and wanted my uncle to think the old projection was shot. Well I got the bulb however it would almost look like there are some dead pixels on this screen. Attached are some pictures.

Any ideas what might be the problem? Thanks in advance for all the help!

Projection is not a fixed pixel display so it is not dead pixels. I am not a FPJ guru, but it looks like possibly is some sort of smudge or debris inside or on the lense? Perhaps the gurus will chime in when they come on.

It is great that you actually included pics of the problem. It helps figure out what the problem is.

That does not look like dead pixels but rather that someone damaged the ventricular screen on the display. It looks like someone rubbed a semi sharp object across the screen and changed the light refraction properties of the screen. You might just need to get a new screen for it to solve the problem. Some RPTVs have TWO screens with the second one being a protective screen so if this is one of them you could test this by removing the protective screen to see if it solves the issue before spending money on a new screen.

I am no expert with Sony LCD RPTVs but this is my GUESS as to what your issue is.

Good luck!

This is NOT a Front projector but rather a REAR projection display. But either way, if it is an LCD, DLP, or LCOS projector (front OR rear) it is most definitely a fixed pixel display. The only projection displays that are NOT "fixed pixel" are CRT projectors.

I think your picture indicates the Sony "optical block" recall problem. It ran thru 9/07 so you may be too late, but call Sony Customer Service and if your aunt still has her receipt they might help you. They call it the road map problem I think.

I don't have a Sony, but I remember many people with the same splotchy thing on their Sonys.

Thanks for all the responses. I will be sure to call her tomorrow and ask for that. If she does not have it how much does an optical block cost? Is it even something I can buy? If I can buy is it possible to install myself? Thanks again!
