Default Question about screen door effect

The wife and I bought the KDF50 WE655 at CC 2 nights ago for $2534, price matching to Sears. After second thinking how much over our original budget we were we have decided to back out before delivery this Saturday and go to Sears to pick up a Panny PT43LC14 thats on sale for $1,889.
Will the screen door effect be less prevelant on a smaller screen than it was on the 50"?
If I can get sears or CC to come down on the 42" version of the Sony we bought to withing $200 of the Panny price is it worth spending the extra $200?
How far away should we sit for viewing the 42/43" versus a 50"?

sde vary person to person, I have 55 inch SONY Grand wega KDF55 WF655 newer model the SDE is more visible at less than 7 foot distance also viewing angle makes a difference, i sit around 11 ft from TV it doesen't bother i think it is also depend on the singnal of HD broadcast too. it all comes down too you if it bothers you or not. in the store you will never been able to see it because of lighting and distance form set. you can play with settings to minimize it. same thing is true for Rainbow effect on DLP lot of people have no problem with it and they are happy, the ones who have problem can't stand DLP sets.
i would recommend you to buy the newer model of SONY as the black levels are significantly better than the old ones, i paid 2500 bucks for the model at CC retail was 3200, there is margin on these models try to bargain. also buy extended warranty it worth it.

I think the SDE is substantially worse on the Panny LCD than on the 42" Sony. All you have to do is walk up to it, then start backing up to see where the SDE disappears. The Sony's also have more pixels b/c they have some sort of non-standard display resolution, and IMHO the SDE is less prevalent. But as the other guy said, you have to let your eyes be the judge. I'd think in the 42" range, you should be 7-8 feet back.
