Dude, one of them uses LED as a light source. I went to CES this year and saw this technology. The LEDs are supposed to be better and last longer, but the technology still needs work. It's not as bright as the mercury lamps.

LED may not be as bright as a NEW bulb, but after a thousand hours or so your bulb will be dimmer.... until it burns out and you need to replace it.
The big plus side to LED is that the new sets are rated at about 30,000hrs until half birghtness... so figure you'll get 60,000hrs out of the set (assuming no other issues). Also, the brightness difference is pretty slight if you ask me... and once the set is home LED is plenty bright, in fact I turned my LED down in brightness because it hurt my eyes being so bright. Not only that but LED doesn't use the color wheel and is basically 99.9% "Rainbow Free". A big plus for me as I saw rainbows everwhere on my old set... and I have NOT seen ONE rainbow effect on my LED... and I've been trying to make myself see a rainbow too, lol. |
