I ahve the 55" Sony KDF-55WF655. The TV has been immaculant so far, over two years now. But late last night while I was playing Xbox 360, I noticed a blue tint in the bottom left corner. You can really only see it when the screen is dark in that spot. I believe this is a known problem with these TV's, as I believe it is the optical block.
Thanks to the Good Lord I actually bought the 4 year PSP from Best Buy, something I never hardly buy for stuff. My main question though is how does this work? I called Best Buy already & they told me a guy couldn't get here until the 27th, that's a long time, but does anyone know if this means he is coming to look at it that day & THEN tell me he is going to order the part & not be back for a couple weeks??? I told Best Buy that it was the optical block & what the TV was doing, but I doubt they take my word for it. Luckily it is not bad at all right now, I just hope it is not one of those things that gets worse as time goes by, cause if he has to order the part I am gonna have to wait till the 1st or 2nd week of December.

In a way I would almost wish it would get worse so he can't miss it or say it's normal.
Likely the light engine. Be glad you have the coverage.

Most of the techs come pretty well equipped now-a-days and he should not have t make a second visit.
I have the same problem right now on my tube (maybe same problem) as I have a green "sunburst" on the bottom left but only can be seen against certain backgrounds. Just waiting for it to finally die so I can get a new Plasma...

well my appointment was just what I figured. Guy comes out from BB & takes a look, says he'll order the part & see me in 1 1/2- 2 weeks.
Oh well it is still not bad at all but he told me it would get worse, that it spreads across the left side of the screen & you may get blue dots in the center. He seemed like a straight up guy, said he had the same TV in his home. I asked if he has had to fix alot of Sony's with this problem & he talked liked the number he has fixed is unreal, there has been so many.

Thought I would update the repair process using my Best Buy warranty.
Repair man shows up with the new light engine today & pops it in, puts everything back & I turn the TV on & the picture is at an angle now. You couldn't even see the bottom 1/4th of the side bar on espn on the left it was off so bad. He said he had never seen that before. Looks like Sony had sent me a defective new light engine So now I will have to wait a week or so before hopefully getting my TV fixed. Thankfully the blue blob/tint isn't bad at all, as I had him put the old engine back in. BTW I asked him how much for this repair without warranty, he said $1700-$1800. He said the part itself was $1400. Thank the Lord I got that warranty!

You would think they would make the parts affordable, but I guess they are out to get you to buy a bunch of their TV sets. He told me the TV to buy now is the Sony Bravia, he claims they are great TV's. This guy was real nice & seemed to know alot about TV's. I started telling him about a TV I had for 15 years & he started talking about thst the Flat Screen tube TV's were pure junk. I then told him I had a 27" Sony Wega flat screen in my bedroom & loved it so much that I bought the 32" inch version 2 years later for my daughters bedroom. But he did not back down, he said the time is coming that those TV's are gonna go out, that they don't last long at all, something about the flat panel causing the tubes to go out. And said he had 3 in his garage he needed to fix, he didn't say what brand though. I didn't back down neither & said that the picture on those TV's could not be beat no where & that both had been put to alot of use. His comment caught me off guard, as I have never read nothing bad about those Sony Wega's. Have any of you heard anything about them?

No worse than any other. I am not a huge Sony fan, and there are so many other options out there.
But they are very popular which is why you read more good and bad about them. But that could be said of any well known brand like Samsung, Mits, JVC, and many others. And most people come to forums with problems so it is difficult to slice through the numbers and arrive at accurate conclusions. They each have their own pluses and minuses. Do a good amount of research and in the end use your own eyes to judge what you like best.

Did you check with SONY directly? I had the same problem with my KDF 42 WF655 a couple of months ago and my extended warranty co. referred me to SONY because they were covering this problem since it was such a wide spread problem.

No, cause my Best Buy warranty covers this repair. Yes I know that Sony covers this repair until 12/2008.

Well my repair under the BB warranty is finally complete.
This time Sony sent a working part & the same guy came out & had it in & working in 30 minutes. A job well done. I was aggravated with Sony that they sent a defective part last week, but everything is fine now. Since the defective part wasn't BB's fault I give them an A+ for the whole process from start to finish. Also the guy quoted the price of the repair if I wouldn't have had a warranty that I posted above way too high, as I have the reciept from BB. There is actually two parts they ordered to repair the optical block. The OB itself was $726 & the other part, a Lamp Block Assembly, was $197.99 for a total of $923.99 plus $150 for labor.

You know, it really amazes me that the consumer is forced to buy an extended warranty after they just paid a high price for a piece of video equipment because the quality of the product is less than adequate to begin with. How dare Sony and Samsung and all of the others put out excessively expensive products that fail, over and over again yet their warranty isn't good enough to cover the faulty products. Before the current digital, HD age, how often did we see or hear of expensive TV's needing repair? Not often.
It's time for us as consumers to band/join together and demand that these companies who produce high quality (expensive) video equipment include at least a 5 year warranty with their products. If the products are truly good then this should be no problem for them. If the companies say that this would be too costly for them, that just means that the quality of their product is sub standard. I'm not going to apologize for my rant as I am really tired of hearing of all the problems we consumers have to deal with as a result of our greedy corporate world.
