Replace light engine

I had the color wheel replaced twice on my RCA HD50LPw42 back in March and November 2005 under the factory warranty, because of a noise issue. The noise is now back. The service tech said he is now going to replace the light engine to take care of the problem. Will replacing the light engine solve this, or is it just the problem color wheel bearings. The tech said it could be either one but the light engine should be replaced. I do not have any other issues with this set except for the noisy color wheel. Since I have an extended warranty I will let them do this. Any thoughts on this

I assume you already had the light engine replaced - if not, do it right away! We didn't purchase the extended warranty and a dark shadow in the upper left corner has been slowly growing over the past year or so because of the faulty light engine (which RCA should have recalled). There are tales of problems with light engines and color wheels for this model all over the internet. We replace the color wheel ourselves and the one we took out is now a VERY expensive ornament on our tree.

No, I did not have the light engine replaced. Best Buy decided to replace the set, under the extended warranty. I got a Samsung HPT5054 50" Plasma, and I love it. No more color wheels to go bad..........excellent digital and HD picture, and very user friendly set
