I received my Mitsubishi WS65815 HDTV Rear Projection Set with three "9" inch CRTs last Thursday.......Since my Cable Company(Bright-House Networks Of Central Florida) would not deliver or exchange my Digital box for a High Def Box unless there was a High Def Tv in the house, The Mitsubishi Techs had to calibrate the set with Digital box----The picture on the upper channels(above 100 were fair & digital).......The lower channels from 0 to 99 were very fuzzy.....I was told that once the High Def Box was attached, the picture would improve greatly........On Friday, the Bright House(same as Time Warner) sub-contractor came to my house and switched he digital box for a High Def box from Scientific Atlanta.........The 4 digit number high channels(which are all High Def at night & digital during the day looked excellent.....However, channels 100 and higher were fuzzy, almst like analog in it searly days in the 50s.......This Sub-Contractor for Bright House was here for about a half an hour pressing every button imaginable on both the Mits Remote & the Bright House Cable Remote, bringing up set up screens, Menu screens, component screen and what have you........He left us with a fuzzy picture from channels 2 thru 500, where-as, every channel above 100 is supposed to be digital.......The 4 digit High Def channels were fair, and not at all as sharp as the day before with just the digital box-----Anyway, I contacted Bill's Tv in Vero Bch and he said a Tech would be here first thing Monday morning--------In the meantime my Son-In-Law who will be attaching my Receiver, Surround Sound, DVD-Players etc,etc,--came over Sunday to see what the picture looked like----He had repaired, or I should say, be-built. my old Zenith IQB64W10W that was destroyed by the Hurricanes in Septemeber down here.......After trying to figure out what this Sub-Contractor for Bright House Cable did, he replaced one of the main component cables with a Monster cable to see if recetion would improve----it did slightly, but the picture quality was still terrible------This morning the Tech from Bill's TV in Vero came to the house and had to reset the Component Convergence from scratch----My Son-In-Law was here to see exactly what had to be done to get a decent picture back on the 65 inch screen-------Now the Bright House sub-Contractor told me, that the only way to get a great picture from your analog stations( 0 thru 99)---and a better picture from the digital channels (100 & up) is to connect to Bright House's DVR, as it has enhanced features which will make the analog channels less fuzzy--------OK---What I have now, is passable channels from 0 to 99; Fair picture from 100 & up.....and very good to excellent on the 4 digit channels which are High Def at night, but only a few during the daytime----Discovery High Def is the best, with PBS coming in second--------Now to compare the new Mitsubishi WS65815 to my discontinued model IQB64W10W Zenith when it was working, is no comparison, as all the stations on the Zenith had excellent pictures and sound from 0 to the 4 digit High Def Channels-------O thru 99 are soft, slightly fuzzy & not sharp at all.....100 thru 999 are passable, and supposed to be digital, but also soft in contrast.....Only the 4 digit High Def Channels can compare in any way to the old Zenith IQB64W10W, which up-converted analog to almost digital..........If anyone has any suggestions, I sure would like to hear them.....My Son-In-Law will eventually be hooking up all of my extras to the Mits next week some time & will include the Yamaha Receiver RX-V650......I don't know if that will make a difference or not......Or is it possible that Time Warner(parent company of Bright House) has lowered their transmission signals-----and would the DVR attached with the High Def Box give me a better picture from channels 0 & up---especially the lower , what the Techs say are analog signals from channels 0 thru 99-----------When my Son-In-Law disconnected the high def box Sunday night and plugged the TV jack directly into the wall jack. the picture was much improved--but all we could get were channels 0 thru 60; but they were clearer then now!--when re-connected to the High def box and re-calibrated, the lower channels are not clear at all------So I do not think its the TV------I have to think its the transmission of the High Def Box---Plus one last item----I have to use the Mits remote to turn on the set & raise or lower the volume----then I have to use the Cable remote to turn on the cable and change channels-----There are 4 aspect ratios---but now only 2 work Standard 16x9 & 4x3 standard------Thoughts and suggestions please, and sorry for the long letter---Joe From Florida----sasheegm

As far as aspect ratios go there are only 2 for your HDMI or the DVI imputs but !!! when you switch to cable input you will have the 4 --

You should split your cable signal. 1 feed for sd programs(straight from splitter to t.v.) and 1 feed for hd programming(thru your hd box). also, your tech should have known the codes for your t.v. to input into the cable remote so it could handle basic t.v. functions. If your looking for the best PQ, you should consider an OTA for your local channels. Also, use the DVI or HDMI connection for a pure digital connection (not sure which you TV has). How do your DVD's look and how is your DVD player connected to your TV (progressive scan player, I hope). Check the cable box for which type of outputs it has.
Good Luck and let us know about that beautiful new Mits. |

Hello Mostlarge: Thanks for your input........My DVD-Player & VCR have not been attached yet, since I only received the set last Thursday & the High Def Box was attached Friday afternoon......I wanted to square away this problem first before my Son-In-Law hooks eveything else up for me( I have about $3500.00 worth of equipment just sitting & waiting to be attached).......Bright House is sending one of their best Techs tomorrow afternoon between 1 and 4pm......In speaking to the Customer Service Rep, she said she had the same problem with the SD channels.....and I told her this should not be, since before the Hurrianes hit us, I had perfect picture in all formats from Bright House Cable on my old Zenith IQB64W & a Pioneer High Def Box----They got ruined by the storms as my roof came off in my TV room.......So I contacted the VP of Customer Relations for Bright House in Orlando, who I know quite well ( Did not want to bother him at first ) and he assured me that the problem will be taken care of by Bright House, and to keep him up to date on what happens tomorrow........All my dvd-players are progressive scan---I have 3---VCR is 19 micron 4 head Hi-Fi Stereo....As far as Outside reception in East Central Florida, it is non-existant.....We get everything from Orlando here in Palm Bay Florida, 35 miles south of the cape----Either by Cable or Sat dish......and in the land of Lightning(most strikes in all the world) Sat dishes are a hard sell down here---------But as I mentioned, for almost 4 years with High Def from Time Warner & when Time Warner changed their name to Bright House down in this area, I had flawless reception.......So we will see what tomorrow brings.....Bypass the Box and plug the TV into the Cable jack in the wall & the SD channels are perfect.....so it has to be a box problem....with just plain digital box, the SD channels are not clear, but better then with the High Def Box, and the Digital Channels are perfect----with the High def box, channels 100 thru 999 are terrible with pixelation & brief hesitation in the picture.......but the High Def channels are magnificent----Since there are only 8 Hi Def Stations(unless you subscribe to more), the High Def Box is useless to me-----Thanks again, Joe From Florida---sasheegm

Hope all goes well with Brighthouse. I am from Tampa and know all to well about the Lightning and Brighthouse. Thinking of making a switch to Dish but not sure. Hope your PQ improves. Go Devil Rays (LOL)

Hello Tampa from Palm Bay due east of you on the Indian River Lagoon......The Bright House tech brought the DVR box, hooked it up and the digital problem was solved immediatly; but the SD channels were still not good---better, but not good----He then went outside to the Cable Box and line to the telephone poll, and increased the signal 7 to 10, whatever that means, and the SDs are greatly improved now, and acceptable------Still not as good as my old Zenith IQB64W10W, but watchable now.......Still much to learn about the Tv and the DVR, but I would say that if the HD-Cable boxes are not impoved soon, the Sat. Dish Companies are going to have a field day.....I can use the DVR, as I do tape alot of movies off of the Encore Channels specifically the westerns channel & TCM since I have been a Classic film buff for over 40 years---I'm 63----On the Devil Rays, we get them over here oce in a while on a local SD channel----but I subscrie to MLB-Extra Innings during the summer & the new Cable Card is not adaptable to receive MLB yet.....or I would have gone the Cable Card route........I played ball for a long time, and that is my favorite sport.....Originally from NYC---then LI, and finally here in 1976.....So I missed my Yankees, Mets, and other teams I follow.....I was lucky enough to see Joe DiMaggio in his final year 1951 & Ted Williams at Yankee stadium plus the three greatest outfielders of their time in Yankee Stadium, Ebbetts Field, and the old Polo Grounds----Mickey Mantle, Duke Snider & Willie Mays.....So NY baseball is in my blood....and MLB-Extra Innings brings it home to me.....I only think that the Blackout rule regarding the Devil Rays, & the Marlins is rediculous since I am 200 miles from St Pete, and 150 from Miami....Oh Well....maybe eventually the Cable Card will have these features and these lousy HD Boxes will be a thing of the past....Thanks again for your in-put...I showed it to the Tech, but he did his own thing and it worked....so for the present I am happy with it.......Joe from Palm Bay Fla, sasheegm user id
