Default The DANGER of Buying ONLINE

I'm sorry for the blatant plug for a company I've dealt with in the past, but it needs to be said. It's always a gamble when you buy online. That store you posted has no apparent contact information. There's no phone number, and when you dig in deeper to find out who they are, you find out it's run out of someone's apartment (google map it).

If I'm spending a hundred bucks or more, I'd rather purchase from a more reputable company like Discount-Merchant! They are the one of the largest AUTHORIZED Philips dealer for genuine parts.

Recently I purchased on Amazon from bulbking. Their motto was "Buy from the little guy." NEVER AGAIN. Everyone who sells lamps seems to want tell me that the bare bulb is the best. Discount-Merchant says it's better for the environment and it's easy to do it yourself. I agree, but when it came time to purchase for my parents, I found BulbKing first and purchased a lamp. NOT AS EASY as you might thing. Apparently, it required me cutting the factory connection to the ballast and then manually tying the ballast wire onto the bulb. That's not a simple repair or replacement! That's ghetto rigging something and hoping it'll work. Sure 100s of people may have done it in the past, but just my luck, I'll eff something up!!! So I called Discount-Merchant and they talked me through what I should have done and the reason they don't sell the bare lamp for that model (Panasonic's TY-LA1000). They gave me the entire lamp and casing for under 200 bucks when I told them my story of spending so much money with the "little guy."

There really is only a few big players in this market, and I'm definitely going to be buying from this reputable company again.

I purchased my Samsung DLP HL-S5687W over two years ago from Second Act on the web. Damn great price and service at the time. Sadly, I went there last week to buy another and they have fallen do to the economy and are no longer in business.

Anyhow, buyer beware on Warrentech or Repairtech. I need a repair but it turns out only one repair shop is authorized by them to do the repair in my area. Twice I have taking off work and no one has showed, returned calls, etc. Needless to say they are now getting a company out of another city (which is in another state) to come in this Monday. It's been a month since starting this process so lets hope this guy shows.

I just bought a Samsung DLP HL-S6187W off Craigslist this past Saturday for $600. The thing looks like its been in a box its so clean. Anyhow, seems to work fine and have no real concerns other than some picture PQ ???'s. I find there are too many adjustments to be made and I don't like having that much control. I just want auto 24/7 though I don't think that works best with this set depending on the source.

Anyhow, I have no problems buying used or on the internet. I have learned my lesson with Warrentech/Repairtech. I understand through this forum that the Samsung extended warranties are far superior, especially where customer service is concerned.

Oh, and I agree..Stay away from Best Buy. Something is amiss there. Every electronic item my brother and I have bought there has been faulty and returned. I am starting to think they purchase seconds.

HI, I am a frequent buyer of discount-merchant ,I buy parts and lamps from them.As a service center you have discounts and warranty with them. They always deliver the parts in time, exept one time they did take a little bit more than usual to deliver the part I needed(weather conditions) I have no complaints they are friendly and efficient.I Give them 5 stars.

Haven't heard of them but you should check if they are registered and allowed to sell X products.

Same here, I've never had any problems with amazon and have recently bought a blu-ray player and a whole bunch of bd's (I'm pulling the country out of the recession, one blu-ray at a time)

I purchased a Sony XBR7 52" LCD (I know they Suck) However I purchased it from the sonystyle web site -and all was smooth and went well, But since 1998 I try to purchase everything online to beat sales tax and sometime shipping charges as well. Knock on woood I've never had a problem that couldn't be resolved.
