My Samsung 42" rear projection TV after being on for about 30mins develops a yellowish tinge in the corners of the display. The longer it is left on the worse it gets. Never fills the whole screen but it does look pretty bad after about 30mins.
Does anyone know if this an easy fix? Or is it even worthwhile fixing? Steve |

Do you have any speakers located near these yellow spots that are developing? What is the age and model number of your display? |

Hi, thanks for the welcome...
The unit is a Samsung HCN4226WX. I bought it used myself. I've had it for a couple mos now. This has just started to develop. Overall the set in just under 3yrs old. As for speakers near it, the only speakers are the ones inside the TV. |

There is only way to verify this and it is very dangerous so I want to warn you up front if you decide to go further . . . You need to look directly at the Blue CRT to see what is going on the face of the CRT. That means opening up the set and sticking your head inside while it is powered up. Here is the danger . . .there is voltage in your set that if you touch the wrong component - these voltages WILL kill you. If you can somehow rig a small plastic mirror (NO METAL!!!) on a wooden stick and carefully place the plastic mirror above the Blue CRT LENS so you can see it. That mirror has to be plastic - a childs mirror I believe is all plastic including the silvered part you look into. BE CAREFUL!!!!. If it looks even remotly close as far as clearances - DON'T DO IT. Don't take ANY chances . . it's not worth it. If you can accomplish this reverse view - look for dark spots on the edges of the Blue CRT. Last edited by Lee Stewart; 03-29-2007 at 06:30 PM. |

So why does the yellowish colour appear? WHat does that have to do with the blue lens?

I didn't get the original remote with the unit so I have a universal. Do you think I need to run a Convergence Shift after the 30mins has elapsed? May this be causing the issue?

Red and Green make yellow light. That is what I am guessing has happened . . the blue is missing from those areas due to advanced phospor aging. Remember the image is upside down a far as what is on the CRT so if the yellow spots appear on the top of the image, you have to look at the bottom of the CRT. The mirror inside the set causes the image to invert to the proper right side up. Any remote that operates all the functions of the TV is fine. I believe there are manual controls on the front of the set also. Last edited by Lee Stewart; 03-29-2007 at 11:21 PM. |

OK I had sometime this weekend to remove the cover from the set. The CRT's are esy to get at as they are right there when you remove the cover. Using a mirror all the colours appear to be fine, no dark spots from what I can see.

Did you do as Lee said but also wait the amount of time that you noticed the yellow start to appear to check the blue lens?
