My parents still have a 4:3 set and do hate widescreen movies.

I haven't wasted any money. I love my LCD, worth every penny. I just prefer 1:85 widescreen movies because they fill the whole screen. I do watch 2:40 movies, I just find the bars annoying. I usually wait until nightime to watch these movies so I can turn off the lights and then I don't notice the bars as much.

You have wasted my time with your post.

Default I also prefer the screen filled

But with my 16x9 Toshiba set on Theater 1,most DVDs fill 80 % of the screen which is acceptable.

I wish the Tv would zoom the hd channels when they are not broadcasing in HD, though. Next TV I get will have to have an HD zoom.Problem is with a 34 inch screen you pretty much need it filled to see anything at 10-12 feet away.
