Default Hitachi 50V500 - red glow in center of screen

Had the unit about 15 months now and a couple of weeks ago I started to notice that there was a red glow in the center of the screen that has been getting worst by the week. If there is white text across the screen then the center text has a red hue and looks like bleeding around the text. Likewise, any video in the center has a reder hue also. I supect the bulb id going but not sure yet

Any advice would be appreciated?

Thanks,

KM

It sounds like one or more of the LCD panels are starting to go. If I had to guess I would say the blue panel since that one has the shortest lifespan.

Did you buy an extended warranty? I hope so, but if you did not I would scream bloody murder up the chain of command for Hitachi to fix it for free. Those panels should last longer than 15 months. Maybe your TV never had the UV filters put in at the factory, and that is what caused the problem.

Make sure you tell Hitachi you will blast this problem all over these forums if they do not fix it for free.

Good luck and let us know how you make out. The same for the poster right after yours who has the same problem.

this is the red color engine going out. if you have the warranty they will replace it for you. it cost about 1800.00 if you don't. they know it is a problem because the vents slots in the cooling engine are to small. i just had mine replaced about a month ago, and the tech said he has done a lot of them.

we had a nice blue spot on the center of our display in my store. Figured it was dead pixels though.

Default Red Cloud- Hitachi 60V500A

Unfortunately I have discovered that this is a common problem. The extended warrenty on my unit expired 12/18/2006. (I know, bad timing.) Should I start with the warrenty company or Hitachi service center? Thanks.

Hitachi is very well aware of the this problem in the 50 and 60V500 models. They are changing out all with new "Light Engines" for those that have this problem. I only had the factory warrenty, which expired 5 months ago, and they still replaced the light engine at no cost to me!

Smile Red glow in the center

I had the same problem, it is your light engine. The light engine has gone bad and it costs $1500. But here is what you need to do, call Hitachi at this number 800-654-7013. Tell them your problem and give them your zip code. They will put you in touch with an authorized tv repairman for Hitachi. once he comes to your home and tells you the problem with your TV. You need to call Hitachi while he is in your home. Once he confirms the problem, they will ship the part to his shop for him to put it in your TV. But the only thing is you will be responsible for paying the repairman for the installation of the part.

OK, so I have been havin this problem for a bout 2 months and spoke with Hitachi and service company. Service company will fix the engine for $400 labor.

In the economic times, $400 is a lot of money to throw at a problem that currently isn't too bad. My question is, will this get much worse? Do you think there is a statute of limitations and Hitachi will stop sending out the engines for free?

Is there a cheaper way to fix the problem?

Thanks,
Heath

Sadly, I'm also in the same boat. My T.V. lasted 5 years.
