Id go with either LCoS or DLP. The Sony Series in the LCoS department and the Samsung Series in the DLP deparment. What is your budget and what screen size are you looking at?

What is LCoS? I was looking at 50, 55 and 60 inch. Price range in the area of $2000-2500.

Both Sony and JVC make LCoS projection displays. These offer about the best picture you can expect in their price range, but the best DLPs are not far behind.

No. 3LCD is just Sony's name for their standard LCD rear projection display.

SXRD is the Sony name for their LCoS.
HD-ILA is the name for JVC's LCoS.

what is LCoS?
Liquid crystal on silicon (LCOS or LCoS) is a "micro-projection" or "micro-display" technology typically applied in projection televisions. It is a reflective technology similar to DLP projectors; however, it uses liquid crystals instead of individual mirrors. This is contrary to LCD projectors which use a transmissive approach. In LCoS, liquid crystals are applied directly to the surface of a silicon chip coated with an aluminized layer, with some type of passivation layer, which is highly reflective.
LCOS technology can produce much higher resolution images using highly advanced silicon technology than liquid crystal display and plasma display technologies, which makes it less expensive to implement in such devices as televisions.
LCoS technology has the potential to enable the manufacture of big-screen (50" and larger) high-definition televisions with very high picture quality at relatively low cost. LCoS, while conceptually straightforward, can be a difficult technology to master; a number of companies have dropped out of the LCoS business in recent years. Commercial implementations of LCoS technology include Sony's SXRD (Silicon X-tal Reflective Display), Syntax-Brillian's Gen II LCoS, and JVC's D-ILA (Digital Direct Drive Image Light Amplifier). All three of these companies produce and market rear-projection televisions that use three-panel LCoS technology. Sony and JVC also produce and market front-projection displays that use three LCoS panels. Another provider of third-party LCOS chips is a Novato-based firm, Spatialight. Direct-view LCoS devices such as the single-panel LED-illuminated devices made by Displaytech are also used as electronic viewfinders for digital cameras. These devices are made using ferroelectric liquid crystals, which are inherently faster than other types of liquid crystals.

Only CRT and plasma based displays have any real concern over permanent burn-in. And even that is small unless your usage is very specific beyond mostly viewing.

my $.02

i purchased a 3LCD for one main reason and here is why:

when i was shopping i walked into my local best buy and lo and behold in the back of the store they were doing demonstrations for tvs. they way they did it was kind of clever on their part actually.

they had taken a monday night football game in hd from cable and dvr'd it. they then ran it through one of those super-duper splitters that stores use to send the same signal to all their tvs. In one bank of tv's they had like 3 plasmas back to back with another bank of 4-5 projection tvs. they happen to have a samsung 42" dlp and the sony 42" 3lcd side by side. now granted i know there are tuning differences and settings and calibrations but they sony was so much brighter than the samsung i was sold.

that being said, do i, or for that matter, most of us here have good enough memory that once we got home and hooked it up could remember and say, oh....this picture is so much better than that dlp back at the store.....of course not, but i am completely happy with my decision and have no complaints....

well maybe one.....now they make a 46" with 2 hdmi inputs
