Default Problem with my lamp that new lamp didn't fix.

I have a Mitsubishi WD-62725 that I purchased in February 2005. The manufacture date is November 2004. I was watching a DVD the other day and all of a sudden the picture just went black. I never received a warning that the lamp was going bad. After a couple of minutes of trying to turn off and on the DVD player, the tv turned itself off and the red lamp indicator came on and stayed on. Tried hitting the reset button a few times, but that didn't help. It just went through the process of the green power light flashing for a while, then turning off. Then when I try to turn it on again, it lights green for a minute or two (no lamp power, no blue screen, nothing), then eventually turns off and the red lamp light comes back on. Figuring the problem was a bad lamp but that for some reason it didn't warn me, I ordered the new lamp and did the swap per the instructions (with the tv unplugged). Plugged back in and same problem. (By the way, the old lamp looked a little dirty, but nothing to indicate it was blown). After a few more attempts at re-setting, I unplugged the HDTV cable box while it was trying to cycle on and all of a sudden I had a blue screen (lamp working again). Thinking I just needed that extra final reset, I reconnected everything and started to watch a DVD again, for about 2 minutes, then lost the picture again! Anyone experience anything like this or have any suggestions that I might not have tried yet?

I had a similar experience. Came home from a 30 day trip; no picture/sound and the lamp light red; replaced lamp didn't fix the problem. No picture/sound at all only the red lamp. I was wondering if you got a fix to your problem. I have the set less than 2 years.

I cant help with your situation but I was considering a Mitsubishi dlp when I purchased my tv a couple weeks ago but when I went to a Circuit City to look at all the tv's the Mitsubish was not working it had a light on (not sure what color) but would not power on. Later in the week I was at a Best Buy and their mitsu was doing the same thing so I got a bad feeling and no longer considered them for purchase. It's too bad because when working they look great.

Unhappy Mitsubiishi Projection TVs Lemons?

That doesn't sound too good. I have, at as a last resort called a "tv technican" and ask them to take a look. They will take it to the lab and it check out.
I am not really confident that the problem will be fixed anything to fix it will probably cost more than its worth. (I have sunk $289 for a new lamp - the old lamp didn't looked blown).

The price of the big screens have come down sighnifcantly. A new one, replacing the one on hand is about half of what I paid.

There is only one certified Mitusbishi service store in San Antonio and they didn't seem to interested in taking on a out-of-warranty problem.

I am not sure, outside of replacing some outlandashly expensive board there is any reasonable fix.

I will wait until next year and consider a replacement (not a misubishi)

I will post the technicans response.

Your lamp is more than likely gone. Its easy to remove to check. Just
unplug everything, then take out the 4 phillips screws, and remove
the back panel which goes to the lamp, then remove one more small
screw which holds the lamp in place. Reach in and pull out the lamp
as it is on a slide tray. Be careful not to disrupt wires. If the lamp is
gone it will more than likely be broken inside.

Default Lamp

How about the lamp ballast. It drives the lamp, similar to a fluorescent lamp.

Default Mitsubishi Ballast Problem

Looks like it is the ballast after all. Problem is the board will cost $750 to replace and install. Any suggestions on what is the "smart" thing to do at this point (trash, repair,)? Ideas would be helpful...Thanks.

Default $65 Ballast on Ebay....DO IT YOURSELF

Buy a Ballast off Ebay for $50-$65 and to it yourself!!! There are a few different sellers on ebay selling them for a fraction of the cost of what a repair tech will charge you. A buddy of mine purchased a new bulb and ballast directly from Best Buy for a reasonable price and did it himself...he said it wasn't very difficult. My ballast is out on my Mitsu, but it's under warranty. If it were not under warranty there is no way in he** I'd pay $700 for a tech to do something that I can do for $100.
